chesbaycruiser 83 #1 Posted December 2, 2011 I'm sure I'm probably the only one who hasn't seen this long ago, but I just stumbled across this and thought it was pretty cool. I am reminded of some conversations here where folks have talked of resurrecting or building a new "old style" Wheel Horse type garden tractor. I think this is a pretty good execution of the same sort of idea. The website is available here: http://agriculture.n...%208N%2050%20HP The tractor in question is the venerable 8N, and it's modern-day descendant:
chazm 413 #2 Posted December 2, 2011 Well the idea is good, but the Boomer 8N isn't even close to the reliablity of the old Ford 8n's. I worked for a New Holland dealer & they we're nothing but an eletrontic nightmare, looked cool, but a problen child. Chas ,
chesbaycruiser 83 #3 Posted December 2, 2011 Well the idea is good, but the Boomer 8N isn't even close to the reliablity of the old Ford 8n's. I worked for a New Holland dealer & they we're nothing but an eletrontic nightmare, looked cool, but a problen child. I wondered about that. I guess it's just like cars. By almost any measure, the horsepower, performance and handling geometry of many of today's cars far outshines that of all but a few from back in the "muscle car" days. Not to mention reliability, durability and fit-and-finish....and usually with a lot less CI Displacement. But all that technology comes with a price....dear God, if you have to work on one....forget it! Time to drop to your knees and pray for a 327 with headers and a big fat Holley 4-barrel! As for me....give me a real '69 Camaro SS/RS over that new thing any day of the week. (But I wouldn't turn down a new one either!!) Oh, wait... ...this was supposed to be about tractors....sorry! I do think they did a great job of capturing the "visual essence" of the original 8N. Sad if it's not a reliable performer. CB
SousaKerry 501 #4 Posted December 2, 2011 Just one BIG problem that I can see..... IT DON"T SAY FORD ON THE SIDE dumbest thing Ford ever did was sell the division, dang it Henry Ford(remember him he invented the assembly line and model T) started making tractors with leftover car parts and most of them have outlasted the cars by decades. My dad still farms with a Ford NAA and two 960's simple rugged and very long lasting.
baerpath 517 #5 Posted December 3, 2011 Yup you can tell how good they are by checking other dealers lots. The IH dealer has one that shows 7hrs on it. Another dealer has one with 20 that tells me stay away. LOL Duane
