auto trans.

i just got my first auto.1985 314-A. is it normal to hold lever in toget full speed.when you let off it slows down.also what make of trans. is it?

Your tractor has an Eaton hydro. If its a manual lift machine you have the Eaton 700 and if you have hydraulic lift its an Eaton 1100.

There's an adjustment under your seat. Its a cam plate with a nut on top. There's a friction washer as well. Most of the time you can just tighten the nut a little bit to keep the cam plate from slipping. If the friction washer is to worn you'll need a new one. Not a big deal or a major expense.

I had this saved from a while back (1100 Eaton shown, but 700 similar):

Do not over-tighten (service manual states 6 lbs pull) and do not lubricate.

You normally just need to give the friction washer nut a slight turn to snug it up. A suggestion, on my 416, the cam area became clogged with debris, take that cam apart, clean it up real good, put it back together and adjust. It's an easy job to do and since doing it with mine, it's like a new tractor.
