reecie 3 #1 Posted November 23, 2011 Hello All, Maurice in Hudson Valley, NY. I am new to this forum, but have poked around enough the last couple of weeks to really appreciate what is going on here. Real nice My father always had Gravely's (typically 7-9 at a time), so I grew up appreciating REAL STEEL. Recently got my first Wheel Horse: Package included 1976 D160, Onan 16hp, 56" Blade, 48" Snow Blower, 48" SD Mower. All pieces are in solid original condition. We had about 11 inches of snow a couple weeks ago, so I used the plow. Wow! I have a big driveway that usually takes four hours with my 2-wheel Ariens walk behind (walking a least a mile and half). I was done in 35 minutes and only walked 20 feet to my garage Woo Hoo!!! Everything I've read tells me the D160 is meant to run 3/4 to full throttle, so as to not burn the Hydro. Wow the sound is impressive, and no smoke (not even on start up). One question for starters from the newbie here. Where does the D160 (or D series in general) line up in the Wheel Horse line? Thanks a bunch and keep doing what you're doing. Maurice
Sparky-(Admin) 21,743 #2 Posted November 23, 2011 Welcome to Redsquare!! The D-series were built from 1973 to 1981( I think that was the last year). The newer Onans, especially the 20hp ones, have a shaky reputation with valve seat issues but the older Onans like on yours seem to be great engines. I've only owned two "D"s and they both had the Onan 16 and ran great! Mike..........
reecie 3 #3 Posted November 23, 2011 Thanks Mike! Good info to know. Now matter how good I feel about a (used) purchase, I am always a bit leary until it proves it to me over time. Maurice
