faster 11 #52 Posted December 23, 2011 Well I found something that I suck at and that would be sewing upholstery. Today I took the old seat cover to a upholstery shop and they wanted $60.00 to make up a new cover so I stopped off at Jo-Ann Fabrics and picked up some vinyl dark red and off white $10.00 for all thinking the wife could knock this out in a hour or so. I was wrong she said that the last time she sewed anything was 30 years ago and have at it if you can even find the sewing machine and I did. Well it not as easy as I thought it would be and I fu-ked up real good after about 2 hours so the bottom line is I can't sew. Heres the mess. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

faster 11 #58 Posted December 28, 2011 Thanks guys this site has been very helpful from the very start of this restoration. Well I did get a seat cover sewn up no were as nice as Buckranchers wife but its a cover for now. Also give the hood another coat of prime after alitle more body work and started cleaning up the deck for paint also. Zeek, The blaster I use is a harbor freight cabinet that I picked up on sale for less then $200.00 a few years ago and its great. I also have a 5hp 60gal tank air compressor and a small refrigerated air dryer that keep the grit dry which really helps but the compressor still works hard. As far as the big parts like the hood I do have a pot blaster but I just had a local shop blast it for $25.00 saved some time and the mess. Here some new pictures with my Xmas battery. faster 11 #59 Posted December 28, 2011 It was cold today but sprayed alittle red on a few parts not much left now. Sprayed the hood a few small parts and got the bottom of the deck with the paint that was left. Hood is on with painted letters ( very hard almost as bad as sewing ) deck is paint will need new needle bearings Torrington b 1212 found some for $6.75 ea. here Atlanta. On the Subject of yer blaster I have the same setup with a 5HP Dayton and Air Dryer The next compressor will be a 7.5HP 20CFM at 140 lbs. faster 11 #65 Posted December 31, 2011 Jake, It's finished other then the wiring ignition switch bearings for the deck and the decals which have been order. The hardest part was all the cleaning and paint for sure but in the end it sure looks good. She got it waaaay back in high school. Originally it was from Ga. Always thought those VW "pickups" were so cool - but they're always beyond repair or a million bucks! Awsome job on the WH! That particular model was what got my addiction started, so I am somewhat partial to it.
