i got a tractor today and it rolls fairly easy compared to my c160auto with sundstrand,is this common for this pump, the tractor drives good with lots of power after an hour driving

The Eaton 1100's will roll almost freely, and the "clicking" noise you hear seems to be normal as well. The Eaton 7's wont roll, and as you know the Sundstands need the valve opened before they will.

thanks alot,it makes me feel much better,im wondering about wheelhorses thinkings back then,a 300 series has the big eaton and then there are 500 sries with the 700 series, and the earlier 300 series seem to have the 700,which is what i thought i was buying, and now it turns out to be 1100 with hydro lift(new snow blower tractor)and i wont mind drilling holes in this girl, she only has 500 hours which isnt too many, the hour meter and volt meter both work too

so i was wondering if anyone knows if the eatons were filled with trans fluid instead of 10w30 which i have researched and it seems they are supposed to have motor oil, mine has tranny fluid, just wondering if the factory did put in too or someone has been playing around with this unit, and do you guys think i should switch it to motor oil?

My 417A has dextron in it and my 520 has 10w30 in it, my c160 has 10w30 and my 875 had dextron. Ether one will work, just put in what came out of it. do not mix them!! they can be changed from one to the other, but you have to flush it all out before you can change to the other.

i was leaning towards leaving it as is,so i got a new filter and bit the dust and got the tranny fluid,i was just curios if anyone knew if they came factory that way,for a 1990 hydro 1100 eaton?i was hoping that it had motor oil besause of wally world,we can get a 5 litre jug for 10 bucks, trannyfluid was 25 a jug,i know its not alot but it adds up when you service several tractors

A phone call or e-mail to Eaton would get you a definite answer, but I have yet to see an Eaton 1100 in a Wheel Horse with anything but motor oil as the fluid.

The Tru-Turf greens roller (manufactured in Australia) at work has an Eaton 1100 series hydro unit and calls for "Penrite 5W-60 synthetic" oil - which I changed over to Mobil 1. It is constantly & abruptly changing direction and is not treated nice by any of the operators, so I will stay with the synthetic oil.

Hydro

Don I had a 1990 312H, a 1992 416H and a 1990 520H. I had manuals for all. I can safely say the manual calls for 10W-30. or 10W-40. I have always wondered whether a 0W-20 would be better in the winter but even my 1997 calls for 10W-30

so went with tranny fluid for now,did i mention i really like the eaton pump, you can move it around with out starting it,thats a real bonus compared to my sundstrand,i wont free roll at all,not that its not a good tractor, its just not as convient, and it goes fast in reverse also,it really goes both ways :dunno:

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your notes on the Eaton 1100. I just bought a used one to put on my 518-H. It's empty right now, as I'll have to plug the lift hose holes and refill it. I saw some posts about there being trouble filling some pumps. Is there any trick to the 1100? Thank you very much, dwc
