520h stripped transmission drainplug

Recommended Posts

cheesegrader

The latest discovery.

I was going to change the hydro fluid/filter this weekend, but Nooooooooo!

The plug is stripped, partially cored out, and strategically covered with grease to hide the mess :dunno:

How thick is this plug?

I'm a little worried about drilling through and getting drillings into the transmission.

Does anyone have a part number or any ideas about a replacement?

I can't find it on the TORO parts diagram!

Thanks

Here is the plug. I got one off E-bay not too long ago too. It is a 1/4" allen head pipe plug.

Good luck with getting it out. Two options I have heard of are, of course the screw extractor, and I also think one dude welded a nut to the plug and then it came out real easy.

IM015951.jpg This is how I got the one out on one of my D's. Just tap it in until you feel it bottom out. I think it's a T-45 torx. Worked great!!! I replace all mine w/exterior hex heads. Good luck :dunno:

ive definatly used a large easyout,i had to grind the extractor down a little so the point didnt bottem out on the bottom of the plug, they come out fairly easy because of the oil it plugs, not usually too hard too get out

Some one on this site passed this idea on to me years ago when I had the same problem. It seems to come up from time to time so I just keep the picture on file. It should probably go in the FAQ thread.

I needed a plug because my hydro was missing one when I got it.

I used a 1/4" brass pipe plug - picked up at lowes for a few bucks.

Fit just perfect.
