squonk 42,005 #1 Posted October 10, 2011 Is there a vendor that sells those thumbscrews that hold the hoods on the round hood line? I've had my 704 over 2 yrs and the last 2 times I had it out I noticed one missing Worst part about today I moved that tractor maybe a total of 15 ft and It's gone. I know it was there when i started. You'd think I could find it? NOOOO!! I figure If I got new ones at least one of them will show up! :banghead:

neil 2,410 #9 Posted November 20, 2013 Does anyone know the thread size of the thumb screws ?
pacer 3,175 #11 Posted November 20, 2013 Those thumb screws do have an irritating way of backing out and disappearing. The threads on the front 2 of my 1054 over the years had got so sloppy they wouldnt stay tight so I took them out to 5/16-18 and made up a couple new ones on the lathe. If they arent tightened pretty snug, they will vibrate loose and -- poof! gone!
SousaKerry 502 #12 Posted November 20, 2013 Put a star lock washer under them, it will help some and you won't have to tighten them down as much as a split lock washer.

baerpath 517 #15 Posted November 21, 2013 I use a dab of red silicone to get mine to stay still without marring the paint. I also have Gene's hood screw's
JimD 3,345 #16 Posted November 23, 2013 You guys might want to try a few wraps of teflon tape to keep those hood screws in place. It does more than just seal leaks.
rmaynard 15,820 #17 Posted November 23, 2013 I put nylon washers under mine to keep from damaging the paint. Secondary effect is that they don't seem to vibrate out.
