Projekt B-60 0 #1 Posted October 8, 2011 I'm working on a K-161 and having difficulty with the governor linkage and disc assembly. Does anybody have a picture of a K-161 governor linkage fully assembled, or a similar set-up? Any reference pictures would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you!!! TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #2 Posted October 8, 2011 I can get pictures, but if you can be more specific on what problems you're having, I can make sure I get the correct pictures.
Projekt B-60 0 #3 Posted October 8, 2011 I disassembled this engine two years ago. I took pictures of everything except for, you guessed it, the governor. I have the Kohler Manual, but it's not very clear with regard to the assembly of the parts. Basically, I have the following parts: - Governor Arm - Disc (where the throttle cable attaches to) - Throttle cable bracket Do I remove the brass nut (threads into the block) that supports the governor-shaft when installing the throttle cable-bracket? What is the correct orientation for the throttle cable bracket? Any pictures that depict the correct orientation would be greatly appreciated!
TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #4 Posted October 8, 2011 Let me give it a try........... Install the control disc (with the spring engagement "tabs" pointing outward) over the brass bushing and thread the bushing into the block. While holding the control disc outward against the hex head of the bushing, slide the cable housing bracket between the disc and the engine block and LIGHTLY snug up the bushing. (torque spec is 130 to 150 INCH lbs.) Turn the control disc so the the tabs are near the bottom, insert the throttle link into the holes in the governor arm and carburetor, and slide the governor arm onto the cross shaft - inserting the spring loop into the slot between the control disc tabs. Projekt B-60 0 #5 Posted October 9, 2011 Thank you SO MUCH! This is perfect! Why the Kohler Manual does not explain this in better detail is odd. Just so I understand, there is NO seal between the cable-housing-bracket and the engine block, correct? Again, thank you! I'll be sure to post pictures of this little B-60 as she is looking much happier compared to the first day I got 'er. -Ian
TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #6 Posted October 9, 2011 Nope - no seal is used on the bushing. Don't forget to "synchronize" the governor arm/shaft once you have everything installed. Instructions are in the service manual, but I'll post them here too.
KSU_COWBOY*$ 0 #7 Posted May 3, 2020 I have a 161T on a trobuilt Horse. We replaced the carb, but couldn't get it to stay running we started the tiller blades running. Wasn't in dirt yet just on the bracket, so free wheeling. Looked like the pin was above the arm so we moved the pin below the arm. With the spring inthe tab slot, seems the governor is all the way open. we moved the pin until it is one hole away from teh spring tab, hoping to take compression off the governor arm to allow it to slow down. Just need a little guidance. Please and Thank you. Picture showing teh the pin, sporing tab and placement of of throttle cable in the disc would be appreciated.
