glide 0 #1 Posted September 24, 2011 Just went and looked at a 1993 520-h with 400 hrs and a 48 sd deck, in like new condition. It is at a non wheel horse dealer and he is firm at 1995.My question would be is this to much money for this tractor or a reasonable price. It really is in excellent condition with no issues. DoctorHfuhruhurr 137 #2 Posted September 24, 2011 That seems like a lot to me but I'm notoriously frugal. A couple questions: Do you have a cell phone with internet? Are you in a rush to purchase? I ask these questions because if you have a internet capable cell phone you you can download the free CraigsNotifica app and have it notify you whenever a Tractor you want comes up for sale. I recently paid $800 for a 1996 520-H with 500 hours and it came with a two stage snow blower, 48 deck and plow. Granted this is pretty low for all of that but my point is that you can probably save a lot of money from a private sale instead of a dealer assuming Wheel Horse tractors aren't rare in your area. But just be sure to test out any potential purchase from a private party thoroughly. here is a link to the for sale area where some 520's have sold recently to give you and idea on pricing in the private market. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?...s&highlite=520h
zieg72 209 #3 Posted September 24, 2011 IMO based on what I have purchased and sold that price is fair for a low hour machine ***with absolutely nothing to fix, tires are not dry rotted, the tach works, there are no vibrations indication bearing problems on the deck and the seat has no cracks***. I just bought one from a member on here, 3 years newer, bigger deck but with some problems that need to be addressed that if I had the dealer fix I am sure would exceed that $1995 firm price. Remember these machines were 7-8K new back in the day without a deck and hold their value decently. I am sure others will chime in but I think that is a fair price if the tractor is pristine.
glide 0 #4 Posted September 24, 2011 Thanks for the replys.I started a thread on Introductions that states my plight.I have been searching craigslist in my general area of the country (Northeast) along with ebay and this is by far the nicest tractor I have seen.I have looked at a 1990 416-H with 1047 hours with a single stage blower at a dealers and he wants 1695 or 1000 for the bare tractor.I already own a 42 sd and 2 single stage blowers. That tractor was a nice mature one owner machine but does not compare to this 520.My dilema is my C-175 motor has expired and I need a machine for blowing snow.I am the pivot point for lake effect into central NY off Lake Ontario. Any input is greatly appreciated. By the way this is a fantastic sight with a wealth of info. Thanks, Mike

TheMooseIsLoose 8 #6 Posted September 24, 2011 Depends on which part of the country. In the northeast it will sell for around 2000.00, can't say for the rest of the country.
DoctorHfuhruhurr 137 #7 Posted September 25, 2011 Someone is selling a 1990 520-H in Rutland VT with 700hrs and 48" deck and single stage snow blower for $1500.
baerpath 517 #8 Posted September 25, 2011 Personnaly I'd repower the C175 with another Kohler rather than buy a 520 Theres a 520 ugly but runs for $450 in the for sale section on here. Duane

Thanks Well $2K seems like a lot to pay for a Mint 520H , The MTD’s @ the big box stores that are all “Badged” JohnDeere ~ CubCadet , and even Toro , and painted their respective green , yellow , and red colors , are all in that general price range , and will perform just fine (for a couple years) until the warranty expires just prior to when the “Tractor” starts to fall apart ! That 26yr. Old ~ 93’ W/H 520H with 400 hours , should easily give you another 26yrs. Of service , with proper care & maintenance ! Great Investment Sir / If you don’t buy it it , I would appreciate the info on where I can purchase that fine unit ! Thanks Dan
