faster 11 #1 Posted September 23, 2011 Found this on craigslist today for $100.00. The engine has been replace and should start with alittle work but it has no hood hope I can find one. The pictures from (craigslist) not the best but what`s there is in real good shape only some sureface rust. This will be a good winter project.

faster 11 #4 Posted September 23, 2011 I have a black hood tractor now so this is my first old one. The motor on the 654 is a newer 8hp tecumseh if I can`t get it running I have a old 6 1/2 kolher that should fit right on.
faster 11 #5 Posted October 11, 2011 Haven`t started working on the tractor yet but did repaint and remove some broken bolts from the exhaust port and one head bolt I broke off. This is a K181 6 1/4 hp that came off a tiller with the crazy Tillotson carb that I hope will work. As far as the engine the bore and valves looked great so it only got a makeover and I`ll keep my fingers crossed. This tractor maybe a 704 when I get done I just hope the engine will fit but need a hood first. It`s starting to get fun.
Kelly 1,029 #6 Posted October 11, 2011 A K181 is a 8hp a K141 is the 6 1/4hp, And there is a pretty straight lawn ranger hood on ebay right now, that will fit your tractor.
faster 11 #7 Posted October 11, 2011 Kelly I saw that on ebay is that the going price ?
rydogg 186 #8 Posted October 11, 2011 The nicely painted recoil and tilly updraft carburetor were used on the 633.
Kelly 1,029 #9 Posted October 11, 2011 I bet it will go much higher, nice hoods are getting very hard to find, the last real nice hood that style just a month or so ago brought near $200, that is un common but $100 for a uncut straight hood is getting to be the norm. faster 11 #10 Posted October 11, 2011 Ok I`ll call it a 633 LOL. So I gess the engines a K141 ?
Kelly 1,029 #11 Posted October 11, 2011 Well you can call it what you want, but the 633 was a differnt style tractor, look one up in the gallery.
faster 11 #12 Posted October 11, 2011 What I would really like to do is put it back to a 654. But for now I have this engine and the one thats on it HM80 from what I`ve read is to big for the hood. I bet thats way it doesn`t have a hood just a guess.
JUSS10 250 #13 Posted October 11, 2011 if you bolt a K161 on it, you will more or less end up with a 704 (one of my fav round hoods) take a look in the gallery. you will be happier with the kohler in my opinion and then you would have to worry about a charging system either. just a thought
faster 11 #14 Posted October 15, 2011 Brought home the 654 today now I can get a closer look at whats needed. I bit on a hood that was on ebay but lost it at $155 but thats ok it needs alot of work before it needs a hood. Heres a few pictures.
