Rollerman 290 #1 Posted December 20, 2006 Finally got my 704 running & drove it yesterday for the 1st time. After swapping carbs,fuel pump, points & grinding the intake valve for proper clearance she purrs now. But when I drove it I discovered it wouldn't hold 3rd gear. 2 steps forward 1 step back looks like I'll be pulling the tranny out now. Luckily the 4 speed trannys are all practically the same from the 60's and I was able to swap in a good one with no modifications. Mike Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Rollerman 290 #4 Posted December 21, 2006 nylyon...I'm going to go the easy way & swap trannies. My work bench is to full of pending projects to pull a tranny apart now My other option is to make it a 704-8speed...have a few of the 8 speeds pileing up. After the 704 is complete I'll get back into the 1045...I know the tranny on it's going to be a project. It has a grease zerk installed at the back of trans at the fill hole!
