how do you or can you adjust the brake pedal on a 310-8?.

mine is way too far back.

i've looked and don't see a way to adjust it.

brake works fine just a pain to use.

Yeah, that doesn't look right at all, but I can't tell you for sure what's wrong until I look at my own 310-8 later today.

I think you're right, I don't believe it's possible to adjust it. I suspect instead it's just not assembled correctly, maybe something is missing or broken.

How does it "work fine" like this? Is there a whole lot of free play until the brake actually engages, or does it rotate just a couple of inches or so before engaging?

You might check the Toro site or PartsTree.com to look at a diagram of what's supposed to be there and how it all connects.

And I'll get back to you later in the day if nobody else beats me to it. :thumbs2:

There is no adjustment however you can adjust the footboard and slide it toward the middle of the tractor with the pedal pushed forward. There is a flat spot on the backside of the pedal that acts as a stopper and sits on the footboard. If the footboard is in the correct position you may have to bend the inside corner up a bit. Not the best design as the footboard should have been strengthened a bit.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but it appears that the footrest is bent down slightly as Steve suggested. I had the same problem on my B-100's. I ran a bolt with a washer on it through the frame, belt cover and footrest. The head of the bolt sticks out just enough that it gives the brake something to rest against, as well as the footrest. I don't know if you can do that on a 310.

Here is a picture of mine. The arrows indicate the two contact points.

I just took a look at my 310, and I think Steve's on the right track with his advice to look at the footrest. The flat spot on the pedal is formed by a corner of the tab that the brake rod goes through. When you're all done, the horizontal part of that corner should be resting on top of a small section of the inner front corner of the footrest. Like he said, if that corner of the footrest is bent, you may have to bend it up a little to give the tab a nice flat surface to rest on.

Also, the belt guard on the 310 angles up and away from that area, so I don't think you can use Bob's idea without some modification.

And if your footrest is bent a lot, I suppose it's also possible that the cross shaft that the whole brake assembly rotates on is bent as well (although I would guess that would require a LOT of force). Worth looking at while you're poking around.

Hope this helps!

That's what I was afraid of. :thumbs2:

Ditto on that :thumbs2: That footboard can be out of adjustment.
