bmay432 0 #1 Posted August 25, 2011 I have a 551 suburban that I had to open the trans, on. I can't find a gasket for it so I will just make one I guess. Any suggestions on what type of material to use?

stevasaurus 22,867 #5 Posted July 2, 2012 The gaskets for the RJ's transmissions are no longer available, you have to cut your own now. The gaskets for the cast iron Uni-drives were still available...I bought 4 of them last year. The gasket material I used for the RJ trans came in a 1' X 4' roll for a few bucks. It is made by Fel-Pro and called KARROPAK. Tan in color, it appears to be about 1/32" to 1/16" thick. It is gasket material, not cork. I bought it from AutoZone. There is nothing wrong with using cork, this stuff was there and I tried it...worked for me with no leaks and I did not use any gasket sealer.
