Coadster32 793 #1 Posted August 25, 2011 Figure I'd start the talk about it here. I started to "batten down the hatches" last night. Got the generator running good, deck cleared off, yard picked up, etc. Still a few more things to do. I also put my 800lbs 854 with a board on the front snow plow supporting the back of my garage door. Pics to come on that. Don't know about others on the coast, but I'm taking this one seriously. We had Gloria rip thru here in 85, and we had no power for 10 days. My father had a generator, so we were good. All the trees in the neighborhood were around then, and don't think thery're going to make it this time. We will see. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Weatherman here in MN just said on the noon news that nearly 20% of the country's population is in the projected track of this one. Brrly1 1,146 #8 Posted August 25, 2011 Karl, I could always offer to protect the horses but would be more concerned about you guys hanging out over there on the east coast. I have to believe you would be out of harms way over here in Ohio. Not a whole lot of bedrooms but there is alot of floor space for sleeping bags. I have cable, internet, running water etc: the doors always open. You guys need to battin' down the hatches, board the windows and whatever else it is that you do. My thoughts are with you guys. I called my insurance agent today to see if I can slip a quick rider on my homeowners policy to cover the new vinyl fence. Much to my suprise, she said it's already covered. IthacaJeff 151 #12 Posted August 25, 2011 Gents, you are all welcome to park your campers and trailers and horses up here in Ithaca, NY (seriously). I've got no garage space (no garage), but plenty of space to park heavy vehicles on gravel. You can run a cord to the outside outlet if you want to hang out in the trailer, sorry but only enough bed space for one (unless you can bed down on the floor). Bathrooms work fine! We're about 4 hrs from NYC, 5 hrs from Springfield, MA. We'll leave the light on for ya! The neighbor wouldn't let us cut the tree down, (it's in her yard). So.....we side stripped it. It's a monster of a tree, and could take out either her, or my house. Hoperfully, we won't find out. shorts 182 #21 Posted August 26, 2011 Don't forget to fill your gas cans and prep your generators and chainsaws. I keep a large old chainsaw with extra chains and bar in the garage just in case, the saw is more machine than I want to use anymore but their are plenty of young bucks and smaller home owner saws in the neighbor hood, I'm positive that we could get ourselfs out of a jam if necessary I have 8 large old oak trees i the front and side yard that I have professionally trimmed about every 5 years along with the neighbors chinese elm that hangs over my garage, the neighbors always want to help with the tree bill but I'd rather pay the tree service than have to put a new roof on the garage at some inconvient time when all the roofers are busy fixing storm damage Good luck with riding out the storm, everyone stay safe and healthy Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

At least my job is indoors directing theline crews where to go and where to do the switching to isolate an area where we have a lot of damage. Ill be okay as long as we don't run out of coffee............ We have friends from Cape May NJ who have to evacuate and will be staying with us. I work at a power plant in maine and we are all on stand by and we even called canada to get them on standby since we go up there when they have issues.The power infrastructure in maine is very old and no money has been spent on it so we will see what happens.The ice storm of 1998 i worked 30 days straight.I need a new profession lol.
