squonk 41,643 #1 Posted August 21, 2011 My 42" RD deck on my 76 C-160 cuts nice enough even with shot blades but every once in a while it will shave a chunk of sod out of the lawn. It will do it in relatively flat areas and sometime it will feel like the front edge of the deck is catching something. I think the edge is what shaving the lawn. I'm running the deck wheels all the way up. I tried to level the deck by the Toro site but there are no more threads on the adjustment rod. I'm including pics of the set up in case someone can spy something wrong. This set up is how I got the tractor and deck. I plan on buying new wheels and rollers next year. WH854 44 #2 Posted August 21, 2011 Looks to me like you have your deck hanger on up side down those rubber bumpers should go up, at least they do on my deck they do!!! Also the outside rails the bent part should be down instead of up. I have been there and done that. Chas
WH854 44 #3 Posted August 21, 2011 Here are some pictures showing what I mean. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?showtopic=23196 http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?showtopic=13510 Best I can do!! Chas
squonk 41,643 #4 Posted August 21, 2011 That was my first thought. I saw those bumpers and it looked to me that they were upside down. As I said, this is how I got the tractor with deck. I thought about flipping it over but if I do, wont the bar that the tractor lift arm hooks to be on the wrong side of the deck?
WH854 44 #5 Posted August 21, 2011 If I remember right that thing comes apart in about three or four pieces you can change which side you want it on. Chas
squonk 41,643 #6 Posted August 21, 2011 I just looked at the parts breakdown of my deck and the pic shows those side rail pointing down and the bumpers up. Looks like the deck comes off again this week! :banghead:
WH854 44 #7 Posted August 21, 2011 Sorry you have to do that!!! I have had them off on my 2 many times to fix up my screw ups. Good Luck Chas
C-Series14 15 #8 Posted August 22, 2011 What is the VIN of your deck? I just looked at a parts diagram of a 1980 42" RD deck and those side pieces are pointing up along with the bumpers. Never seen a deck where they point down...

can whlvr 993 #12 Posted August 22, 2011 so for the model # you posted on parts tree it shows the arms down,if you go to www.parts tree.com and go to toro, then in the list it shows accesories mower and look in there with your model nunber and it gives a good pic(3 actually)of the breakdown,i use it for tractors and implements, anything including kohler parts too, they have an engine area too

I didn't say that was the VIN, I don't know the VIN of yours so I used an example RD deck.... I just looked at the parts breakdown of my deck and the pic shows those side rail pointing down and the bumpers up. What VIN did you use that shows them down? WH854 44 #14 Posted August 22, 2011 Go here and put 05-42MR01 in. https://lookup3.toro.com/partdex/index.cfm?xCaller=Toro Works for me!! Chas
C-Series14 15 #15 Posted August 22, 2011 Well, this is getting confusing for all...the OP deck is not a 1980 or newer deck so I was asking if the OP would give us the VIN he used on the parts diagram. I already have looked at the 05-42mr01, when I said they point up, I mean't the bend or "peak" of the rail is pointing up. I will let the rear discharge guys help out on this one...Back to Holme's on Homes.

I will let the rear discharge guys help out on this one...Back to Holme's on Homes. 05-42MR01 is what's on the tag on this deck that I have. It's not the original tractor deck. It had a SD on it and I wanted a RD one. I have no idea what the deck came off of. The breakdown show the side rails facing down and on my deck they face up and the bumpers are reversed. There are not enough threads on the level adj. rod to move anything. It's basically doing nothing for the deck level. I'm going to switch those side rails around and see what happens and let you know.
WH854 44 #17 Posted August 22, 2011 Mike when you switch the side rails, those rubber bumpers go on the inside. you may have to switch sides with the rails, if you just flip them over, the bumpers will be on the outside. As for the bar where the lift rod goes into, if it fits now it should not have to be changed. Oh yea loosen your trunion on the back for the wheel adjustment. I hope I made myself clear!! Good Luck Oh another thing You can put your tractor Model# here it will give a whole bunch of information, down at the bottem of page Just click on them https://homeownersolutions.toro.com/portal/...ductDetailsPage Chas
TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #18 Posted August 22, 2011 How bout a few thousand words worth of pictures?: A few years newer, but essentially the same deck: Reminder (from the manual)......... The rubber "up stops" should contact the bottom of the footrests when the deck is in the fully raised position. (keeps it from thrashing around under the tractor when traveling)
squonk 41,643 #19 Posted August 22, 2011 I just came in from switching the side rails. Deck is now level, the adjustment bolt actually adjusts something now and I was even able to lower the deck wheels one notch. Thanks a bunch!! :banghead:
