Caleb's 854 worker restore

Recommended Posts

Calebintn

Had a little more time over the last few days to work on the 854.

Primed & painted a lot things, my main focus was on the frame & tranny.

I decided to leave the front end intact as it works good & after all I am not going for a 100% restore. This thing will work the garden next year.

Just revisted your thread and am amazed at the progress. You get the most creative use of a forklift award!!! :dunno:

The 854 is looking good and giving me some great pointers..

What colors/paint did you go with and is a a DR-650 Suzuki in the background? I have the yellow fork boots and am considering that and a black seat when my current rips. Love the bike but the colors are a bit Jet-Ski for my tastes....

Keep us posted!!!

Well it has rained for 2 days so I have had plenty of time on my hands heres my progress.

Was able to finish the front wheels with rustoleum gloss ivory, I am waiting for my new carlisle lug tires before I paint the rear wheels. I decided to leave the front dust covers alone, I may paint them if I change my mind. I installed the steer componets & added som SS nuts for some eye candy. Its nice to have a rolling chassis again.

The paint is restoration series IH red in a rattle can.

I'm not sure what color the dust covers are supposed to be, but my guess would be red. I'd be willing to take them off your hands if you like... I'm in need.

But nice work on the restoration :dunno:

Spent a liitle time this evening putting the brake, pulleys, engine & a few other odds & ends.

Starting to come together, it wont be long & I will have to start on the body panels.

Hope you like it, I sure do.

Looks great!!

What color did you use on your wheels/rims?

I am in the process of restoring a set of Roxy gang reels and want the wheels to match WH "Linen".

I have a Ace (with a great selection and great folks) just down the hill and found a great match with ACE rattle can Ivory Gloss 1373554 at $3.49 instead of Rustoleum at $5. looks the same!

I used rustoleum gloss ivory & its looks just right.

Funny how 5 bucks a can is a good deal these days. This inflation is getting insane.

So I have had a little bit of time to put into my 854.

I have her almost finished, got a new to me seat, got the decals which look great, my carlisle tru-powers should be here anyday now. I got the engine & starter mounted, toolbox & fenders well see for yourself below. This afternoon I took a few minutes to wire everything with good quality 12 gauge wire & heavy battery cables.

I put the battery in and VOILA the old starter and engine turned like a charm. All I need to do now is get the fuel line on and add the fluids & she will be running. I am going to tidy up the wiring with a few zip-ties but she is almost done. I hope you guys are enjoying my progress as much as I am. I will take my time on the hood, I want it to really look nice.

I had a ball last night driving the 854 around the yard before my wife got home, she runs like a champ.

I only have a few more things to do before she is complete.
