CDLdrvr 0 #1 Posted August 10, 2011 I am still trying to narrow down the year and model of my tractor. Those who saw pictures I posted said 88 or 89 520HC, now that I have an idiot light coming on guys are telling me 520HCs only had one. I have several. The owners manual I downloaded online (1988) shows the 520H only having one and the 520HC having several (is this a typo?) I have a front mower carrier and a attachment interchange guide I also downloaded says the FMC was only compatible with the 1989 520H. What is so different in these models and years that it will not work on an 88 or an HC? I also need a tie rod (left) but the drawings for the HC shows it has adjustable ends on at least one side of the tractor, mine has none just two tie rods. I need parts to fix this thing and I have been going solely on the pictures in the owners manual and assuming it was an HC, but if the pictures are wrong or if this switched in 89 I need to know so I can order the proper parts for it. If the guys are correct and the HC only has one idiot light, and the FMC will only work on the 89 H, and the drawing for the 89 H front end has a listing for right and left tie rods then I am thinking it has to be a 89 520H (31-20OE02)? Any help confirming this would be greatly appreciated.
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,333 #2 Posted August 10, 2011 The HC stands for hydro commercial. The HC has a less fancy dash panel. It was the first 520 with the swept forward front end some say it is faster than the H. I love mine, the best worker I ever had

A 520HC has the forward swept front axle with 1" spindles and heavy duty auto style tie rods It also says 520HC on the hood decal if my memory is right about the pic's you posted I think you have a 88/89 520H the only way to know for sure what year is by the seral # off the tractor if you have it and go to the toro web site Brian

CDLdrvr 0 #6 Posted August 11, 2011 Thanks again guys. The PM I was sent cleared up a lot and the replies were helpful also. I have the light/straight front end, a louvered hood, hub caps and engine chrome, multiple warning lights so I must have a 520H. The manual I downloaded must be incorrect. BUT it does state the HCs were 1 MPH faster than the Hs! It seems that every picture I see posted on here shows the motion control handle being long and straight, mine is a ball type. Was this an option or has it been changed? Steve I really want to thank you .... those pictures really make me long for the day mine looks that good. Seeing the pictures of one listed for sale in much worse shape than mine makes me see just how close mine is to looking good again. I am going to try to find the engine numbers to get a year, but I am pretty confident since it shows the front mower carrier only compatible with the 89 520H that is probably what I have. So now I have a 89 520H with 48" deck that was sold to me as a 93 520H with 60" deck ... it pays to be on Redsquare ... and carry a tape measure.
zieg72 209 #7 Posted August 11, 2011 1 mph faster??? Can anyone tell by the parts sheet if the engine pulley is bigger on the HC? Curious to get some more ground speed for mine.

littleredrider 409 #10 Posted August 12, 2011 I'm curious too. My 520h is slow. Granted it's a diesel, but still turns the same R's as a gasser. I don't think I'd change it anyways, don't need to be doing burnouts with a loader. (make it easier tho!!!)
