VA_Wheeler 0 #1 Posted July 31, 2011 This is my first post. I just acquired a 1976 C-120 with a 36" rear discharge mower deck. Overall the tractor is in fairly good condition. It needs new front tires and a new battery, it weak when starting. However the one issue I have is, when I go to engage the PTO lever, the engine bogs down and begins to die. If I release the PTO the engine runs right back up. Any suggestions? Here is all the info I have on my Tractor, any more insight will be appreciated. Along with what Bob said, should have grease fittings on the deck spindles...could just have been sitting for a while, and needs to just run...you should have your throttle above half to full when you engage the PTO. There's been some other threads recently about the "engine wants to die when I engage the PTO" problem. You might want to read through this one for some ideas, although I'm not sure it was completely resolved: http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?showtopic=29094 I thought I'd seen at least one other recently, but I couldn't find it just now, anybody else know where it might be, or was I imagining things again? What's wrong with the front tires? In one of the photos, it looks like maybe the sidewalls are a little chewed up, do they hold air? By the way (and I'm no expert on these), if I'm reading your tractor numbers correctly, I believe 10685 is the serial number, and 6028 is the build date (28th day of 1976, which I understand is the scheduled build date, not necessarily the actual build date). SAM58 30 #12 Posted August 2, 2011 Hello and I could be wrong, but it looks like the belt is on the wrong pulley on the clutch. The deck belt goes on the inside pulley closest to the engine. That will cause more stress on the engine. By the way, that deck will not have grease fittings on the spindles, they are sealed... If they get tight, you will have to replace them.
