4 Speed Transmission Problem

Recommended Posts

Wheel Horse Kid

Hi,

I have a 4 speed transmission with a problem. The problem is that the brake will not stop the transmission in neutral to shift into different gears, but brake works when transmission is engaged.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

Thanks!

TT

The brake isn't supposed to stop the tranz input shaft from turning.

The problem is more than likely any one (or a combination of) the following:

Incorrect belt or pulleys

Rusty / pitted pulley grooves

Missing belt guides/fingers

Missing or incorrect belt guard

Brake linkage adjusted too tight

When the clutch pedal is depressed, the slack in the drive belt should be forced forward enough to slightly lift out of the engine pulley groove enough that it will slip there.
