MalMac 1,331 #1 Posted July 30, 2011 Changing the oil in a Eaton 1100 and was thinking about putting in synthetic. Are any of you using synthetic instead of conventional 10w30? Or maybe I should ask can you put synthetic in a Eaton 1100. I really have not had any problems using conventional oil except the cold weather warm up period which is not all that excessive. Just wondering if I should keep to the old saying IF it's not broken don't fix it.
TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #2 Posted July 30, 2011 Synthetic oil in an Eaton 1100 works fine. As a matter of fact, the manufacturer of the $14K Tru-Turf greens roller at work specifies synthetic oil and it uses the same pump. I do use conventional motor oil in the though. I have garden tractors, not firetrucks - so the need to be moving as soon as the engine is running is not required. All of my tractors are in a normally unheated shop that's 60 feet from the house, so fumes are not an issue either.
MalMac 1,331 #3 Posted July 30, 2011 Ok second question, if I would switch to synthetic would there be a problem of the conventional oil and synthetic mixing? Because you can never get all the old oil out when changing.
TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #4 Posted July 30, 2011 No. Try to get as much of the old oil out as you can, install the new filter, and add the synthetic oil.
