What transmission to use when tilling?

Recommended Posts

Wheel Horse Kid

Hi,

I just have a quick question for the forum. :woohoo:

My question is what transmission do you prefer to use when tilling your garden? Do you prefer a hydrostatic or manual (gear) transmission?

Thanks!

manual 8 speed, low range

hydro (eaton 1100 anyway) won't hold the tiller back like the gear drive

I never had a problem with my eaton equipped C-125 holding the tiller back even busting sod on clay. I will admit I've probably had it in reverse though.

I think Brian's right...manual 8 speed in low. It works great on my 1972 Raider 10. :woohoo:

it still pushes my 71 raider 10.best thing is to try it on both and see wich you prefer my c141 seemed to do better than my raider, but my grandpa and uncle prefer the gears.the age old debate its a great excuse to buy another tractor :woohoo:

I use first gear, low range on an 8 speed with the throttle wide open.
