massey 118 #1 Posted July 25, 2011 I have a hi/lo trans with 1 1/8th axles, 8 pinion, 3/4 brake shaft. Can anyone identify the model # for me? Thanks Ed
MikesRJ 552 #2 Posted July 25, 2011 Without pictures and a tractor it is installed on, probably not accurately. Is it on a tractor? If so, what is the tractor model number. If not, can you post a picture of the trans? Could be, I believe, a 5058, 5091, 103907, 103916, 103918 or other. Not completely sure about the 5058 though. This manual probably covers whichever one you actually have: http://www.mywheelhorse.com/graphics/file/...1958_-_1982.pdf
massey 118 #3 Posted July 25, 2011 Thanks Mike. The trans was in a 1968 Raider 9 which I thought would have made it a 5060 but when I went to put the seal on the brake shaft instead of a 1" shaft it is a 3/4" shaft. Here are some pics.
massey 118 #4 Posted July 25, 2011 After looking over the manuals, I think it's a post 1973 5091 due to the separate thrust washer under the reduction gear. Sound right? Did they have a 3/4" brake shaft?
MikesRJ 552 #5 Posted July 25, 2011 My info for a 1968 Raider 9 says model 5060 transmission. Service bulletin 252 indicates the limited slip differential could have been swapped for an 8-pinion diff. But the 5060 used a 1" brake shaft seal (p/n 1232, Seal - Oil 1" Shaft - Brake). This almost sounds like a 5091, which would make the correct seal part a SEAL-OIL : 100441 . I am going to defer to someone more knowledgeable on this model trans. You've reached the end of my ability to accurately help.
massey 118 #6 Posted July 25, 2011 Thanks Mike, I see in your chart 100441 is a 3/4" seal. I'll order them. Thanks for your time. http://www.brandywineits.com/graphics/file...ssReference.pdf
TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #7 Posted July 25, 2011 The thrust washer under the reduction gear on the pinion shaft indicates the newer two-piece pinion / reduction gear shaft assembly. Earlier models (5060, 5073, etc.) had a one-piece pinion / reduction gear shaft. The 5060 (and 5071, I think) had the brake drum mounted to the pinion shaft, which is why they call for a 1" oil seal. Newer versions had the countershaft-mounted brake drum. (like the one pictured above) The 103907 used the short plastic dipstick tube..... 71-08K801 is a '77 B-80 ~ which should get you to an IPL for that tranz. MikesRJ 552 #8 Posted July 25, 2011 Thanks TT. Then building on TT's statements, the SEAL-OIL : 100441 would be the correct part you need.
massey 118 #9 Posted July 25, 2011 Thanks TT, it's definitely got the plastic dipstick tube. It's good to nail down what it actually is. I appreciate your help.

I have not been able to find parts for it and would love for someone to contact me that may have a transmission or one that will fit. I dont know what all will fit it.
