312-8 / hydro transmission question

Howdy,

I have a 312-8 over here in the UK and I was wondering how interchangable the transmissions are because I might have the opportunity to pick up a reasonably priced early hydrostatic unit from a Charger 12.

I appreciate there's stuff like the related pipework to conisder but can anybody tell me how interchangable the units are otherwise ? I'm guessing the answer's probably "not at all" but I thought it was worth checking with the forum..

since noone chimed in im no expert but i think you are right,not going to inter change,but maybe you could change the whole rear end and then you have the control issues to deal with,the levers arnt going to be the same,the parking pawl lever ,and probally lots of other issues i dont know of

Many thanks Don, I appreciate you taking time to respond. That's pretty much what I suspect too. I think for the sake of being able to shift on the move, it's not worth it..

Don is right the trans will swap over no problem, it's the controls that would give you problems unless you fancy fabing something to do the job.

Is the seller of the Hydro breaking a complete Charger 12 and has the controls for sale?
