rydogg 186 #1 Posted July 11, 2011 The wife booked a trip to Vegas for July 22-25 this will be our first time on a plane and first trip to Vegas we are staying at the Golden Nugget. Does anyone have any suggestions on things we should see or do, places to eat, shows to see etc.
rmaynard 15,309 #2 Posted July 11, 2011 Las Vegas is my wife and my second favorite destination. There is always something to do, things to see and places to go. HOWEVER, if you want to see any major shows, you have to book well in advance. If you are a gambler, you will never run out of things to do, until you run out of money, so do the other things first. I am a Texas Hold'em poker guy, and the best tables I found were at Paris. Our first trip, we stayed at the Luxor. From there we drove to Hoover Dam, and the Grand Canyon. That was a 10 day trip. On our second trip we drove out to Red Rock Canyon and more "local" stuff. Besides the Luxor, we have stayed at Bally's, Harrah's, and a couple of hotels that no longer exist. We are not big on shows, and limit our gambling to a fixed amount, but we never ran out of inexpensive or reasonably priced things to do on subsequent trips. Favorite restaurants are Cheesecake Factory, Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville, Eiffel Tower Restaurant (make reservations now), and PF Changs. Best breakfast buffet is at Main Street Station. Hope you have a great time.

smoreau 658 #4 Posted July 11, 2011 I got one suggestion. TAKE ME WITH YOU!!!! That sounds like a good time and enjoy!
DoctorHfuhruhurr 137 #5 Posted July 11, 2011 When I went I took a ATV tour of the Valley of Fire State Park. I was coated with orange sand by the end of the day but it was a blast. They also have advanced tours if you want to get some serious speed on the trails.

Buzz 502 #7 Posted July 12, 2011 My folks retired to Las Vegas in 1972 so I made yearly trips until Dad passed three years ago. You're staying on Fremont Street i'm sure you'll check out the Fremont Experience. You'll want to pay a visit to the strip and fight the massive 24 hour per day traffic jam. Things to see on the strip: 1/ Eiffel Tower, take a trip to the top at night and try to time it so you see the Water Fountain Show at the Ballagio Casino across the Strip. A foot note: if any good looking women are wearing skirts or dresses, pay close attention when they step off the elevator at the top. You'll thank me for this later 2/ Take a trip to the top of the Stratosphere (1149') and do the rides: Insanity, Big Shot, Sky Jump 3/ The Mirage Casino's volcano (free) 4/ Treasure Island pirate ship gun battle (free) 5/ The car museum at the Imperial Palace If you rent a car check out the Carroll Shelby's Museum out by the Speedway. Take a trip to Death Valley, you'll never see so much nothing in one place. Boulder Dam. I think they still give tours. A lot to see and do there. Have fun. rmaynard 15,309 #8 Posted July 12, 2011 Boulder Dam. I think they still give tours. @ Buzz You are showing your age. Boulder Dam was renamed Hoover Dam in 1947. They still give tours, $8.00 for the visitors center, and $11.00 to go down into the dam and see the power plant. The last time I was out to the dam was in 2002. The power plant tour was closed due to fears of terrorism. They have since remodeled the visitors center and dam tour with a lot more security.

rmaynard 15,309 #11 Posted July 12, 2011 We both love seafood are there any good seafood restaurants or buffets you guys know of. Save your seafood money until you come to Maryland or Virginia. I am so partial to Maryland Seafood that nothing else compares. So I can't advise you on that aspect of your trip.
Buzz 502 #12 Posted July 12, 2011 Boulder Dam. I think they still give tours. @ Buzz You are showing your age. Boulder Dam was renamed Hoover Dam in 1947. Then they should have changed the name of the town and highway to Hoover City and Hoover Highway Sonny........grumble, grumble :woohoo:

Shuboxlover 476 #15 Posted July 12, 2011 Make sure you eat at the top of the Stratosphere (it rotates you know)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My wife and I went there for lunch one of the days we were there, the food was soooooooo AMAZING that we decided to make reservations for our final night in Vegas to eat up there and watch the sun go down and the Vegas lights come up while we ate. IT WAS PHENOMENAL########## Lunch was a decent price (~$70) big portions and EXCELLENT food and service. Dinner was a bit more (~$150) BUT WEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLL worth it!!!!!! :woohoo:

DoctorHfuhruhurr 137 #18 Posted July 12, 2011 The Chicken Ranch Not a place to take the wife. When they had a show on HBO they mentioned that they catered to couples also. There's always the "Hallpass" (like the movie) option.
rydogg 186 #19 Posted July 29, 2011 We had a great time in Vegas the Freemont Street Experience was excellent I liked it better than the strip...we only made it as far as the Bellagio before we had to turn around and get to the Venetian for the blue man group show, we were going to finish the strip but decided it was more fun and cheaper drinks on Freemont street (Freemont beers 2 for $3 or strip beers 2 for $12 unless you are gambling then they are free), maybe next time we will finish seeing the rest of the strip. Here's some pictures We stayed at the Golden Nugget This was taken at one of the casinos on the strip The canopy over Freemont street was great and it kept it much cooler we had to get some pictures with the "street performers" I was a little tired as you can see maybe a little tipsy but having a great time so I tried to stay up as late as I could. We are already planning another trip out there it was so much fun.
