Need Help!

On my Work Horse 700 the gears grind when trying to put it in gear. Now this is all time even at a dead stop and on idle. Question does the belt on the right side of the tractor turn all time? The tractor will stop with the brake and sit still without grinding. If you take it out of gear and try to put it back in any gear it will only grind. I can start it in gear and use it that way but I have to turn it off then place it in a gear then start it again. I think that belt on the right side is not suppose to turn if the clutch is in and the idler pulley on that belt does move with the clutch. What stops that belt if it is turning gears are going to grind. The belt will slip if you stop the tractor but takes off turning again if you take it out of gear. :woohoo:

Is the belt guard on the tractor? If not, the belt will continue to turn, causing the gears to grind. There is a tab on the guard that stops the belt from turning when the clutch pedal is depressed. :woohoo:

Jim's right about the belt guard having to be on to make the clutch system work properly. If the belt guard is on, maybe the stops that are welded on the guard are broke off. Take the guard off and you should be able to see where the welds are. Did this just start doing this? Did you just get the tractor and it has been doing this from the start? It is possible that the belt is the wrong size, or old, cracked, and stretched out. Check out the pulleys and the spring for wear. It almost has to be one of the above. :woohoo:
