2011 Wheel Horse Show Question

Recommended Posts

multihobbyguy

I was thinking about bringing some items to sell at the show to make some room around here. Can someone share the procedure for getting permission or how it works at the show. Do I call ahead of time? Do you just show up and ask? If you happen to know and would like to share I would appreciate it, Thanks, Chris.

You can bring whatever you want and set them out in or around your display tent with a sign. No permission needed.

great to know as I will be doing the same thing. Now, where are we allowed to make camp and when is the first day that we can set-up? Also, will the Redsqaure folks be in a special place so we can hang together or....

There are designated areas to set up camp. When you enter the parking lot, you will directed to where the camping is allowed. It's first come, first served, but there is plenty of room for anyone who wants to camp. You can't set up any earlier than Thursday, and that will cost you $20.00, as will Saturday night if you plan to stay over until Sunday. Friday night is free.

RedSquare members are all over the fairgrounds, not in one particular place. However, there are usually a couple of red canopies set up near the food stand. That is where the group photo is taken, and members such as MikesRJ, Stevasaurus, Suburban550, buckrancher, me, and others hang there.

Good to know. So, thursday and Saturday you have to pay. Hmm, is there a bathroom on site and such as well? I'm just wandering if I can camp on site and not have to worry about a campground. thats all.

There are bathrooms on site and they are kept clean.

oh, really! Great. So I will then put up a little tent for myself. Now, are there any special campfires or something there? Thanks for answering my qs guys...

They have a limited amount of fire rings. People show up early on Thursday to get them. No special camp fires!!

Showers are a nice thing... being a CW reenactor I can tell you first hand how bad the ride home can be especially after camping for 2 or 3 days dressed in wool with no shower. Needless to say windows remained rolled down and the wife refuses to hug or greet me (except from a good distance) until after I take my shower :WRS: Believe it or not, a person can actually offend them self after a few days without a shower :hide: and that AXE body spray only goes so far :)

They open the gates at 9:00AM Thursday, there will be members in line to help you and the people will check you in then if you are camping there. :hide:

... and by 9AM there will be eight rows of cars waiting, and each line will be 20 cars long. Once the gates open at 9 the lines thin rather quickly. ...

Some additional notes on camping:

1) Please keep in mind that there are a limited number of "electric hookup" camper parking spots (no sewage hookups available onsite), and are provided first come, first served.

2) Your tow vehicles and load trailers cannot be parked with your camper (No exceptions this year, per the WHCC), and must be parked in the designated areas for these vehicles. There is a designated trailer parking area (against the road side of the main parking lot) immediately behind the electrified camper area. All tow vehicles should be parked in the main parking lot adjacent to the camper area.

3) Enjoy yourself!

Ok, since I'm camping, I can bring my gear/trailer over to the site and make camp and unload everything and then park the truck/trailer in a parking area? Also, is where I'm making a camp the same place where I can show off my tractors during the day and such?

Thanks guys.

P.S. How long is the line @ 9am? Is it really that long?

Not really. Most people show them around the track or in one of the buildings and then use one of them to run back and forth to the campsite. You can keep them at the campsite but since most visitors DON'T camp there you won't meet as many people.

Your trailer goes in one area, your truck in another. If you want to park them attached you'll have to park your rig on the far left side of the parking area instead of in the parking lot immediately in front of the show entrance.

As Buzz stated, the showing area is around the "track" and inside the adjacent buildings. The camping area is separate from the showing area.

The early birds will start lining up at dawn. The line to get in is that long at 9AM, but tapers rather quickly after 10AM.

Here's an updated picture of the grounds:

SouthMountainFairgrounds-2.png

1) General vehicle parking in BROWN, with overflow parking which is all of the remaining area to the left (attached truck/trailer rigs go out there).

2) RV/Electric Parking in YELLOW

3) Trailer parking in PINK

4) Rustic camping areas in RED

5) Show grounds inside the perimeter formed by the numbered buildings, including inside the buildings on the left. All buildings on the right are for special exhibits and vendors.

There are bathrooms and showers in Bldg 5. There are bathrooms in bldg. 19. There are showers at the rear of bldg. 20 downstairs. There can be a wait for shower, alot of people, a few showers....... It's better than during one of the first show when bldg 5 wasn't built and the was just an outhouse there. Bill Pearson went in and almost sat on a snake :) . his white pants almost turned brown.,,, :hide: :WRS:

Well I can say that I am jealous of you guys who are able to attend this year. Please be sure to post plenty of photos. I am sure there will be plenty of cameras on site this year.

I do have one question for you guys. Since we are planning on coming next year I have a question that hasn't been asked yet.

We have a 7 x 18 enclosed trailer that we will be bringing. It is our goal to get the inside cleaned up and put in drop down bunk beds from the side walls. Since it will be bringing the Horses and also set up for our sleeping arrangements. Where could we park this bad boy?

It is never too early to plan right????

I don't know how long Ray's trailer is, but he did the same thing. Tractors out, mattress down. He parked right along the woods just to the right of building 2.

All trailers are supposed to be parked in the orange area (campers), or the pink (storage).

@WHFan74

In the orange area, you'll have to pay camping fees for Thursday and Saturday nights. Friday is free.
