The two sides are also dowelled together, so they usually are stuck together pretty well. (I'm assuming you took the hitch pin out as well? :hide: )

I have two pieces of angle iron, one is drilled to match 2 of the mounting holes on the fronr of the case and the other is drilled to match the 2 holes in the top. I hold one side of the case in the vise and hammer on the angle iron to remove the other side of the case.

They're visible in this pic:

Finally... I found a good use for a woman here. You need her to lend you a kitchen butter knife to be sacraficed as a tool to split the case sides. (You may or may not want to advise her of this, depending upon your desire for continuing liaisons.)

Sharpen one edge of it and use to tap into each of the 4 corners until they begin to split free of each other. Then use a thicker flat blade screwdriver to work around the perimeter to open it.

I used an old putty knife. Put the side edge of the knife on a corner where the two halves are joined. Make sure the knife is sitting on the gasket. Then tap the back edge of the knife with a hammer. That will usually start the separation process.

A couple more taps and I saw a gap, a little careful prying and it came apart. As I hoped just a broken bolt on differental. Now if I can get that stuck woodruff key out I can finish. Thanks
