persof 14 #1 Posted June 6, 2011 I have a C161a that i am restoring (not for show but mechanically sound for work). The right hand axle leaks and it is worn where a previous owner left the hub set screws very loose. It is not critical that I do this but unless this is scarry I want it right. How hard is it to replace the axel and the seal? When the transaxle comes appart do springs and things "pop" out? Thanks Francis
daveoman1966 3,762 #2 Posted June 6, 2011 There really aren't very many parts inside the transaxle. You can download a manual for it. If you need to replace the axle, I have that....as well as many other parts including the differential and other gears. CAUTION... when you take the Sundstrand power unit off of the transaxle, KEEP IT CLEAN. Just a little bit of dirt/grime will lead to a hydro pump rebuild. Also...thoroughly flush all dirt and debris out of the transaxle before reassembly.
persof 14 #3 Posted June 7, 2011 Daveoman, Does the Sunstrand unit have to be removed from the transaxle? The manual that I downloaded only showed the Sundstrand unit, which manual do I need for the transaxle itself? Looks like four bolts to remove the transaxle unit from the tractor. How tricky is it to re-attach the "go" lever assy? Thanks Francis
