How are you repairing the cracks? Are you going to "v" them out with an abrasive wheel an mig them up ? Do you need to plate them underneath? The 4 inch grinder disks that look like sandpaper do a great job blending welds without removing alot like the abrasive discs.

My seat pan on my commando 800 was just as bad as that one> I worked as a weldr at the time and used a TIG welder truned out beautifully.

Gotta love those TIG welders! They make the most beautiful welds in the right hands! I would like to find a small one to do aluminum to make things for my son's Jeep. I really don't have the experience with TIG but I know it takes much practice. (inset emoticon with welding sparks here)!

Get a good one that can handle Aluminum, and practice makes perfect. 90% of the welding i did was TIG. Have you ever braised or metal welded with a torch if you have the concept is almost the same.

I've stick, mig, aluminum spool gun, braised, but just never took the time to learn Al tig and I had the opportunity.I had alot of burn through when I did practice but I didn't see a need for Tig back then :hide: I see that the ac tig machines aren't cheap. I thought about adding on to an AC/DC stick machine but I've been out of welding for quite awhile now. I'm not sure what the best machine or add on would be. I want US made equipment, that's priority no. 1. Sorry for the thread hijack :WRS: I am interested in how your restoring your seat pan.
