A quick question about a 704 Frame

Recommended Posts

I am refurbishing my 704 and I am currently in the tear down and clean up mode. The question is from the pictures below am I missing something or did a previous owner weld something to the frame. Just wanted to make sure if I ground them off that I wouldn't find out later I should have something there. As always, Thanks, Chris.

My 655 had some mounting tabs for the belt guard in about those same spots but my PO had cobble welded a bracket to the frame to hold the spring for the PTO pedal and completely destroyed the whole area so I had to grind it all flush and fill in his holes....

now I need to make up some spacers and bolt the cover on as they were so mangled i just painted the frame and figured I'd fix it later. Trouble is now it is later :hide:

I've never had a 704, but I'm guessing those are the remnants of brackets to hold the belt guard on. Have a look at the belt guard and see if there are holes or slots that are close to crresponding to whats left.

Here is a pic of my 1968 500 Special:

That is the picture I needed to see thank you very much. I think I will put off priming another day and add those tabs to mine. I do have holes in my guard but I have a 606 belt guard. But those are the 2 tabs that were there originally. Once again thank you so much, Chris.
