520H Foot Control

Hearing so much about it, is it really a perfect replacement for the lever that I have grown to hate in the last 8 months I've owned my first WH 520h. I also use a 2 stage snow blower and have a tiller waiting for me at a Toro shop. Different garden tractor or foot kit from DOC? I have read most of the posts on this topic and would like to hear from the ones that have used it on the 520h,s Thank you for your time and much experience with this subject, Mike from N.Y. :hide:

I developed a foot pedal system for use with Eaton transmission tractors several years ago and test marketed them at the Ardentsville show a few years ago I actually wound up selling them all to one guy who was going to put them on 520's. At the time I was mowing some very hilly ground and it worked great on my C-125.

Unfortunately I lost my house and went through a divorce so I was unable to further develop the design. I do plan on getting back into this in the near future.

I bought one that a dealer still had setting on his shelf believe it or not. Matter of fact the box had about an inch of dust on it. I put it on my 520 and I can say it did work. Now with that being said I did not care for it. I thought the position and the hight was way too high for me. Made me fill like I always had my right leg way higher than my left. Now remember this is just my opinion. I have got a friend that just loves his. I am just lucky that I paid what Wheel Horse charged for them back when they were still available so I was not out of a lot of money. I do think it's great that someone has taken the time and trouble to reproduce them. It's people like that, that will keep the tractors and the attachments going for some time to come.

If I remember I think there was a post a while back. Some one had done some adjustment on the linkage to the pedal that also made it more or easier to use. It might even make it more comfortable to use. Anyway this was just an after thought I had.

I have one on a c195. While I'm not in love with I dont hate it either. I believe if it had a self neutral like the other foot controls I would like it a whole lot more.

I have looked into installing the piston/shock it needs to function. It would be a fairly easy fab and make it a lot more friendly, they can be aquired at your local lawnmower junkyard on any foot control hydro. Now just finding the time.

I have a foot control on 520H loader tractor and I love it, would never go without it on a loader tractor.

I backed the tension off on the direction control cam so it takes very little effort to go from full forward to full reverse. I can just touch the brake pedal to hit neutral.

I always set the parking brake if I get it off of it running, with the tension backed off it can creep if I don't.

The OEM 83900 foot control kit (and copies) are designed to work on the newer "wide bodied" tractors. (1978 & newer)

They would either need a lot of modification to work on earlier tractors, or you could scratch-build one specific to your model - based on the design of the 83900 kit.

Guys, I have been making the reproductions for aver three years now and have sold or traded over 30 of them. I am not looking to get rich off them and basically do it for something to do in the shop during the winter months. Financially, I could make more from working at McDonalds for the same amount of time and money I invest in these. But it is something I have enjoyed doing so far.

I make them thru the winter, usually about 10 or 12 at a time. My cost to fabricate them has been getting more expensive lately. With the cost of the metal and the expense of the few parts I get machined it has driven my costs up significantly. I order the machined parts months in advance so the shop can do them during their slow time and at their pace to cut my costs.

Currently I am out of stock but I have ordered parts for the next batch. I will let you know when they are available.
