How One thing Leads to Another

Recommended Posts

Ya know how one thing leads to another? Frank(Bowtieguy) saved this old '69 GT14 from the scrap - TWICE!. 3 pt. hitch, tiller, and deck. Love the look of these old rigs. That's Franks, 704 next to it with new paint.

Well I ended up with it and have been looking it over, trying to figure out what it needs to make it a worker. While looking at how to remove the gas tank, I noticed this -

caused by this

which resulted in this

Wasn't really planning on taking it down yet, but, guess the fun has started. I've got a ton of questions about this thing. Hope someone out there can help me get this old piece back in use like it should be.

Gonna need an overhaul, and misc. stuff, but everything else is pretty solid.

Yup, thats how it starts. Went to adjust the steering column on my 310, not a big deal and would have taken just a few minutes. Well it has taken over a year and a bucket full of loot but when done will have a very nice tractor. Good Luck and have fun.

Can someone tell me how to adjust the detent on the lift valve, so it will stay in the "float" position?

Is the screw the manual talks about on the bottom of the lift valve? Mine appears to be screwed in all the way, goes no further.

Can it be repaired if all the adjustment is out of it?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hmmmm, so no one has any experience with a GT14 lift valve??

Fortunately, I have never had to tinker with my lift valve. However, looking at the manual and at my GT14, there is what they are calling, a socket head ball spring screw. This will increase (turn in) or decrease (turn out) detent resistance. If you already know this and this didn't work, I would carefully back the screw out, remove it and take a look. You may find something worn out and easy to replace.
