What color gray on Work Horses?

Recommended Posts

wheelhorse2007

Can anybody help me out, what color gray paint is used on Work Horse tractors? I don't need "resto" quality, rattle can would be fine, but I have no idea what gray is used. Any help out there? It's probably been covered before, but I haven't found it in all the posts. Thanks.

I know its a Ford or Lincoln grey but i don't have my files here at work. I repainted one about 11 years ago and got my paint from the local auto paint store. i used a paint with hardener in it and it went on as smooth as glass. I won't be with my files for about 3 weeks so hopefully someone can help you. if not let me know and i'll see what i can find. if you have the owners manual for the tractor it's in there.

Here's a picture of my son on the Work Horse 1848 with the proper gray color. I used a two part urethane for a hard glass like finish.

TT (& everybody else), Thanks for your help on paint color for Work Horse. Appreciate it. However I keep running into a different, but related snag. I've heard two comments so far about all Work Horses being gray. (TT, you mentioned in the post you sent me to that sgtsampay had painted his Work Horse the wrong color - he used red instead of gray) The 1984 GT-1100 is the one that I've been trying to get the correct gray color for, because it's gray (faded). However, I also have a 1982 GT-1142 with the Briggs engine, etc etc. and it's RED with the Work Horse decals etc (looks original). So, my question goes out, did Wheel Horse in fact make some RED Work Horses? I don't really care one way or the other, but just thought I would open the can of worms. Thanks for everybody's help. By the way, you guys really put out some killer restorations on your tractors. I can only look and drool and slobber with envy! :hide:

I won't say that WorkHorses couldn't have been special-ordered in red. (one member here claims to have a special-ordered black GT-18XX)

I have personally owned 6 or 7, and have seen/worked on many others and they were all pewter ("gray") with black frames and white wheels.

If you click on my user name, you'll see the GT-1642 I restored...while it's not the factor color, I think it looks pretty good and it gives it a more modern look. The color I used was off a 2007 Infinity....but can't remember the exact name though...."Silver grey metallic" or something like that.
