serial number and model number stamped tags

Recommended Posts

Rick Meyer

I have a 1973 Wheel Horse that the model and serial number tag was sand blasted. It is .83 tall by 2.97 long by .031 thick and appears to have serial number and model number stamped or engraved. Serial number is 936464. There is a .4 inch diameter thru hole near the left end about .300 from left edge. Does anyone repro raw black anodized or silk screened tags I can stamp? I think tag says Wheel-Horse Products Inc. South Bend Indiana U.S.A. at bottom in addition to Model and Serial above with silver spave to stamp. If not, Does anyone have a good used one I can purchase? Wrong serial number is OK. Thanks, Rick

I would like to know this too. I'm restoring my 1987 312-8 that I bought new. I need the ID tag also. Hope someone can point me in the right direction.

I could swear that I remember someone posting something a couple of months ago or so about a company in the UK that reproduces them as well as other metal tags. Im gonna look and see if I can track it down.

Ok I found it, the original post was made by Neil . I think he posted it back in March. I wish I knew how to attach the link to the original post but this is the only thing I could think of to do. Here's the web address http://www.vintagebrassplates.co.uk/

Actually, Deuce, the 312's used a plastic decal affixed to the rear fender pan just to the left of the driver's seat. The model and serial number were only surface stamped in ink, not embossed or engraved. Nonetheless, I wish someone would start reproducing these, too.....

I think our member Vinylguy has the capacity, but I imagine having to change screens for one-off decals would be cost prohibitive.

OK so here's what I ended up doing. I scanned the copy of the ID tag that is in the owners manual for my tractor and then added my id numbers using a photo program. I then printed it on white background decal paper. Cut it out and applied it to my fender. Came out pretty good. :hide:

Nice job! :hide::WRS:

Did you or are you going to apply a clear film over the decal to protect it?

Duff :)

Before I cut the decal out I sprayed it with 4 coats of clear. After I had placed it on the fender and giving it time to dry out I sprayed it again with clear to seal the edges. The only thing hard about this was finding the decal paper. I ended up ordering it online. There is clear decal paper and white background paper. You should use the white background paper to match the orginal. Hope this helps.
