pittymk 0 #1 Posted May 9, 2011 Figured I'd just come on here and introduce myself. Last year I was able to aquire my grandfathers 1988 520-H after he passed away. He had been a Wheelhorse nut dating back to the 60's and 70's and this was his last tractor he ever bought. The neighbor that used it after his passing in 09 did zero winter prep to it and it was in rough shape in 2010 whan my grandmother gave it to me. I was finally able to get it running a few weeks ago. I took off the gas tank, drained and cleaned it, replaced the Grommit, Shut off valve, fuel lines, Fuel pump, fuel filter, vacuum lines, air filter, Spark plugs and Battery and I was able to get it started. It takes me a crank or two to get it running, but I can usually get it and going It came with a full plow set up, snow thrower, bagger and vacuum set up. It is def going to be a project where I do a little here and there when I can afford it. I'm just happy that it is running and does a good job with the lawn. Dresden Guy 24 #12 Posted May 10, 2011 Good to have you aboard ............ and it's obvious that your grandfather was a wise and prudent buyer when it comes to yard equipment. What a great legacy he left to you ......... a 520H and all the right equipment! With a little TLC, you can leave it to your heirs.
pittymk 0 #14 Posted May 10, 2011 that is the plan. I've never strived to own a nice rider as I never had a property to worry about. I now have a house with a yard in progress and I now know why my grandfather spent so much time out on the tractor. I'd love to be able to get it back to it's factory new condition, but Time and money are my biggest hurdles. I have receipts dating back to the 70's on all of his tractors, even his trade in paperwork for all his tractors because he use to trade them in every few years. I hope I can do him proud by keeping this one going. It currently has almost 1500 hours He used this thing 12 months a year non stop. one funny story about my grandfather with this tractor is the following. We took his liscence away in his late 80's for safety reasons. one time when my parents drove down for a visit, they were driving down a back road a few miles from my grandparents house. My father spotted a random tractor driving down the road. He said to my mom, "God I have a bad feeling about this, please let it NOT be your dad" Sure enough, it was my grandfather. If he couldn't take the truck out, nothing was going to keep him on the property :hide:
tunahead72 2,515 #16 Posted May 11, 2011 Man, that's a great story! Sometimes, a man's just gotta do.... With some routine care, your 520H should last you a very long time. Manuals and parts are readily available, and there's lots of help from some good folks on this site, just ask away if you get stuck. And :hide:

I love the tire set up on that thing. Can you please share the details of those with me? I'd LOVE to get a set of those!!!!! I'm in Pelham, smack dab in the middle of Salem, Nashua, Dracut and Lowell. I grew up there, left for a few years up to Manchester then was able to move back 2 years ago. I still need to get back down to my grandmothers place to pick up the vacuum and trailer. My grandfather gave all his wheel horses the same name "BillyGoat" because it would eat everything he rode over.

SAM58 30 #25 Posted May 18, 2011 You will love that 520H, they just need more TLC than some of the other This is my 1996 520H 340 hrs, the AG tires made all the difference. 23 x 10.5 x12 CARLISLE on rear, 16 x 6.5 x 8 CARLISLE on front.
