squonk 41,329 #4 Posted May 3, 2011 I had almost the exact same thing happen to my C-160. Plowed all winter like a bear. Now it will barely get out of it's own way. It's at the shop now. I don't know how soon i'll find out what happened. Changing the fluid and filter did not help. Try opening up the tow valve and see if the tractor will roll. Mine won't. D3R3K 0 #6 Posted May 3, 2011 i have a spare trans that came with the tractor, becasue when i got it it didnt move. so i found this walve on the lefthand side near the foot board that has a slit in it took it out, cranked some fluid out and, wala! it started moving. so basicallly it sounds like i need a new pump Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

My C-160 is sitting in the front yard until I get out there to open the push-valve and get it to the "hospital" ........... Same scenario with my C-160, ran fine and then it became a front yard monument, zero forward or backward! I will go buy a new WH filter and change the oil to see if that helps. Will check for belt slippage. What did your rebuild cost? I can buy a C-161/hydro/hydraulic lift parts tractor (less the motor) for $50. I know there is no guarantee that that hydro has any better prognosis, but I'm sure it less expensive than a rebuild! However, at times I have a tendency to be "penny-wise, and pound foolish" - know what I mean? What's everyone in the C-160 hydro support group think??? I have been looking for a hydro for the wife to use and I keep seeing postings about hydro problems and how costly they are and not to open them up and work on yourself. Scary to me. Problem is trying to buy a good one. if it is in good shape and you take care of it it will last a really long time. To get one in good shape is the issue. Auctions are not a good place (personal experience here) as all they do is start it and show that it moves. Ebay not much better unless the seller will really let you work it and you are prepared to walk away You really need to get to work it get it fully heated up then see how she maintains speed on steep hills and put her up against a wall and see if she will spin her wheels on cement with you on it. can whlvr 993 #12 Posted May 4, 2011 as for cost to rebuild,i had my sundstrand rebuilt at a shop that does only hyrostatic pumps,he did it for me for cash,this was a complete rebuild,new retainer rings,every thing that it needed,350.00 and he told me it should be more than double that,im VERY pleased with it,worth every penny to me,ya i have a spare pump and tranny,but i know that the rebuilt will be good for a long,long time,if you can get a 161 for 50 bucks go for it,or talk to daveoman1966 and see what he charges,its worth getting these 160s running,they are amazing tractors Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Brrly1 1,146 #14 Posted May 4, 2011 If it is rebuildable I think Daveoman sounds like the way to go. He is a whole lot cheaper than $1100 dollars. That is even for the pump and motor. Squonk, you might want to contact him, I am going swapmeetin' this weekend, I hope to find something there. Time will tell, Jones , Mich this weekend and Portland in a couple weeks.
