ohio704 0 #1 Posted May 1, 2011 Hi all, I just got a wheel horse 704 with a 8hp k181 engine. 1) I wanted to change the oil, but i can't get the drain plug off! Tried using adjustable wrench & WD-40 to no avail. Any tips???? 2) Next, what does this pedal do??? its not connected to anything right now...is it supposed to be the brake??? How do i fix it? 3)Also, did the 704 have a fuel pump? Mine doesn't seem to. 4) The transmission seems to be working fine, but is there anything i can do to lubricate it? Any help is appreciated, Thanks

TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #6 Posted May 1, 2011 I'll say it's a 1964 854.
ohio704 0 #7 Posted May 1, 2011 Cool...i had no idea.. Will it be impossible to find a 854 side plate? Also does the fuel pump look hooked up o.k? Also what transmission fluid should i use if I change it?
C-Series14 15 #8 Posted May 1, 2011 I am no expert on the old stuff but I will take a guess the fuel pump is not hooked up properly.....
WH nut 553 #9 Posted May 1, 2011 The fuel pump is not hooked up, and you are missing the float bowl on the bottom of the Carb. The line from the tank should hook up to the left side of the pump, right side to Carb
ohio704 0 #10 Posted May 1, 2011 I have the bowl to the carb...im waiting on a kit I ordered to rebuild it. So you are saying that i will need a small piece of pipe to go from the fuel pump to the carb right?
Martin 2,131 #11 Posted May 1, 2011 your fuel pump isnt hooked up at all, completely bypassed. the line from your tank should go to one side of the pump and the carb line connects to the other. heres a couple of pics for you from my k181......
ohio704 0 #12 Posted May 1, 2011 Thanks...looking at your set-up really helped. will rubber hose work from the pump to the carb? Looks like you have a metal one?
TT-(Moderator) 1,131 #13 Posted May 1, 2011 Will it be impossible to find a 854 side plate? It's just a decal and it's being reproduced by RedSquare member "vinylguy52". He is extremely busy with "real" work, so if you do decide to place an order, don't expect to have the decal(s) in a day or two. You can also contact "nylyon" if you want to change your forum user name. By the way - that's the "wrong" hood for an 854. The original has the slotted grille openings and is one inch longer than the '61 to '63 hoods.
Martin 2,131 #14 Posted May 1, 2011 yes you could use rubber hose and fittings if you were in a pinch, but personally i like the steel lines. use some 1/4 compression fittings and some 1/4 bundy or brake line. heres the line i replaced on my 1054...(dont get confused that its on the other side, the k241 is hooked up this way, the top of the pump is reversable) the fittings i used are 1/4 compression x 1/8 pipe thread. ohio704 0 #15 Posted May 1, 2011 Thanks for the lead on the decals...I'm not sure though... $40 for decals seems like a lot considering I only paid $20 for the whole tractor! I think i'll let my user name be...but i'll have to find a 704 now

Martin 2,131 #17 Posted May 1, 2011 i got pipe and fittings at my local farm and fleet store. the fittings were in the plumbing section and the line is just brake line that you buy in lengths. since we live in the midwest i always have brake lines to fix and therefore have offcuts laying around. farm and fleet is similar to tsc. Martin 2,131 #19 Posted May 1, 2011 i would try there first. that fitting from you ebay link is for plastic tubing and the thread size is different as well. you need 1/8 pipe, its a taper thread. heres a pic of what you need, here you go.....

puddlejumper 67 #21 Posted May 1, 2011 Also I am pretty sure that is a 701 hood(I will be corrected fast if I am wrong) Dont let anything happen to it because it is kind of special also.
