AMC RULES 37,117 #1 Posted April 29, 2011 Got a great deal on a sweet lil Commando Eight today. If I'm reading the model list correctly, am I correct that this is a one year only tractor? OH YEAH! I forgot, paid a whopping $50 for this 43 year old girl too. How sweet is that? :D
whfan74 2,066 #2 Posted April 30, 2011 They were actually made in 68 and 69. Picked one of those up today as well!
MikesRJ 552 #3 Posted April 30, 2011 I have one as well. Here's the owner's manual for it, but I can't locate an IPL though. http://www.mywheelhorse.com/graphics/file/...do-8_1-4831.pdf
farmer 1,075 #5 Posted April 30, 2011 Yeah come on Craig looks like a Commando 8 club within a club starting up. :D
AMC RULES 37,117 #6 Posted April 30, 2011 Just ask, and you shall receive. Lots more where that came from, I've actually got a few newbie questions about it. Want to see a few more?
whfan74 2,066 #7 Posted April 30, 2011 Dad loves this model of tractor. Really hard to beat those old K-181's. We now have three in the barn. One is being restored as we speak. Rumor has it that the Commando 8 will be the feature tractor at the 2012 Wheel Horse Show! #2000
AMC RULES 37,117 #8 Posted April 30, 2011 Short, fun to watch vid of the front yard being aerated today with the new '68, in slow motion. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0bTEFGDdr8
neil 2,409 #9 Posted May 1, 2011 What a beauty she is , the tractor looks quite nice too
AMC RULES 37,117 #10 Posted May 1, 2011 Got a couple questions, think this could be the original seat? The bun was still attached to the pan, but was rusted in place. I seperated the two, cleaned up the pan, and encapsulated the rust. I plan to put it back together and recover in vinyl at some point. Just curious because it seems the pict gallery here shows a bunch of 'em with two part seat cushions. Base and back seperate pieces, and the pan looks different.
corn53 4 #11 Posted May 1, 2011 My command 8 seat looks different than that. I believe its a one piece but the backrest is kinda short I WISH MINE LOOKED LIKE YOURS!!!! Mine is a rust bucket Yours is a work of art!!!! :wh:
AMC RULES 37,117 #12 Posted May 1, 2011 Thanks for the kind words Corn. I'm trying to leave it alone and enjoy it the way it is, but it's a challenge or a disease depending on how you look at it.
mavfreak 11 #13 Posted May 1, 2011 pretty sure it should look like this?
AMC RULES 37,117 #14 Posted May 1, 2011 Humm, yet another variation, all of the others featured in the pict gallery have short backs. Two piece cushions like your's Heath, just of the short back variety. Seems it's hard tellin, not knowin...forty three years after the fact.
whfan74 2,066 #15 Posted May 2, 2011 Scroll down on this link to "Casual Observer's" photo. I am under the impression that is the correct seat for the Commando 8. http://www.wheelhorseforum.com/index.php?showtopic=
MikesRJ 552 #16 Posted May 2, 2011 The manual I posted above shows the short three-piece seat as the original. The parts list also confirms this as well.
AMC RULES 37,117 #17 Posted May 2, 2011 Humm, that manual still isn't working for me Mike. Keep getting a "bad incryption dictionary" pop up first, and no load up from there.
mavfreak 11 #18 Posted May 2, 2011 See I didn't know there was two seats of the three piece variety!
mavfreak 11 #19 Posted May 2, 2011 I have that seat on my 72 commando 800 and it just looks like it belongs there but not even sure a three piece was supposed to be on the
mavfreak 11 #20 Posted May 2, 2011 Here is a picture of it
farmer 1,075 #21 Posted May 2, 2011 I haven't even driven my Commando yet but I'm already a fan, the steering lock, the way you sit down on it like a peddle car...no running boards, real stirrups . looks like you landed a nice one, bet its easier on fuel than your 520 :wh:
AMC RULES 37,117 #22 Posted May 2, 2011 Yep, I actually think I like it better than the 520 Rex, just a fun little tractor. I think the wife has already adopted it as her own though. Couldn't get her off of it all weekend. See what I mean, when's my turn?
hobie 0 #23 Posted May 3, 2011 Craig, They sure look good together! I think you'll have to work two tractors from now on. You are lucky she likes tractors too!
