My Cub Original 1962

Well I have been thinking, I want a couple off brand tractors for my collection, a cub was on the list, I wanted a early one, I was thinking about a cub 100 that would be a 1964 or 65 with a 10hp, but I found a Cub Original, only a few miles from my house, and it's a 1962 with a couple options on it, like rear fenders, and a rare rear PTO with the PTO guard still on it, and over all it's in good shape, still has the oil bath air cleaner, good grille with emblem still on it, runs pretty good, the PO rebuilt the drive clutch, tires are shot but hold air, but that is no big deal, now I would like to add a few more options to it as I find them, like lights, hyd. lift, creeper gear, rear lift (mini 3 point) wheel weights, maybe factory duels, but for now I'll tinker with it and take it to shows with me as is, picking up parts as I find them, I paid $300 for it, not bad considering the fenders sell for near that, that the rear PTO about that much.

nice cub . where do the original headlights mount and look like ?

i kinda miss my old cub original. it was garaged kept and in nice shape from original owner. dont remember why i sold it , i only had one other tractor at that time (WH 604).

i sold it on the YTmag classifieds long before CL was around.

The rear pto on the Cubs were pretty much useless - not many, if any attachments available. It's more of a conversation piece than functional. It can bring good money for collectors, but it's not very useful. The creeper gear was another option that has limited use and is more for show tractors and/or a good selling point.

I've never seen any attachments that use the PTO, like T-MO said raises the value of the machine, I'll never work this, other than maybe pull a cart or sweeper, it's working days are over.

I was just curious because I thought it was kinda odd for a 10hp garden tractor to have a rear PTO. Like you said neat conversation piece

An Original will/should have a 7 hp Kohler in it.

Yup still has the Kohler 7hp, I'm looking at a creeper gear to add on to it, but you guys think WH stuff cost big $$ buy a few old cub parts!!

It's been my experience that the narrow frame Cubs are cheaper to buy than Wheel Horses and John Deeres. But, the Cub options are more expensive, like helper springs, sleeve hitch adapters, headlights, etc. The decks aren't too bad, neither are the snow blades, and as Kelly mentioned, the creeper gears and the rear ptos are very expensive. And the round fenders for the Original, 70 and 100 are pretty expensive. The rear reflectors and the rear Grote light are expensive also.

I've sold 3 sets of the round fenders and got over $200 for each set, headlights for a 127 I got $160 so ya you have to know what is what, but the parts bring big money.

These old Cub Cadets used the Farmall Cub transmissions which was great, but the PTO spun in the reverse direction from all other tractor PTO's! This made it very difficult to use and to buy PTO attachments.

Hey nice looking original ! A little nicer looking than my 62 original mine has original cog belt deck and optional original hour meter on her. I hope to clean her up and get her spiffy for the Charlotte big and little show in August . There hosting the michigan International collectors state show. last time they hosted the place was crawling with red tractors. I also picked up recently a #1 dump cart a little rough( needs new tires and has a small hole in the front corner other wise solid) there kind of rare I found out. On another note when i was a kid the farmer who lived near by had a 100 that had rear pto and he used it to power his hay elevator. I guess you could buy a small tractor for home use and not get taxed for farm use like buying a full size tractor. They also used them for powering feed mills , hammer mills and irrigation pumps.
