oldredrider 2,548 #1 Posted April 4, 2011 I was using my GT-14 today doing some dirt dozing and suddenly the engine RPM's started going beyond red line. I've never heard a Kohler rev as high as this, especially with a load on it. I quickly throttled back to idle but when I moved the throttle back up, it seemed it had no limit as to how fast it would run. I didn't want to damage anything so I took it back to the barn at a controlled engine speed. After shutting it off, I couldn't see anything out of place on the outside so my question is: what may have happened internally with the governor? (If that is the problem) All the carb linkages are correct, spring is attached to governor arm, cables are tacked down tight etc. This tractor has been super dependable since I've had it. It's got me guessing!? :wh:

corn53 4 #3 Posted April 4, 2011 I had the same thing happen to my raider 10. I havent opened her up yet. But I tried to adjust the governor and it just kept spinning.
rmaynard 15,519 #4 Posted April 4, 2011 The limit is set with a stop bracket on the governor/throttle assembly. Check to be sure it has not come loose. Even if the internal pieces of the governor came apart, the stop bracket would keep the throttle from opening more than is necessary to limit 3600 RPM. I guess you never had a Kohler with a broken tab on the governor cross shaft then....... they'll go way past 3600 rpm - regardless of where the stop is set.

The brain shut down. Note to self - don't give advice when you are not fully conscious. Thanks TT for checking up on, and clarifying my mis-guided answer.
