grinding noise when moving

Recommended Posts

I took the c85 with the rebuilt trans for a test drive. Worked like a charm, except there was a rubbing or grinding noise. I traced it last night to the idler pulley. Is there a was to lube this or do I get a new one. Or do I live with it until it fails?

If its a stamped pully there really isn't much you can do. There is sealed bearings in there You can try to pick the seal off (if it has one) without damaging it and hand pack grease in there and put the seel back in but that's just a band-aid.

You can go both ways replace now or replace later, its up to you!

But IMO i would do it now rather than once you finish the tractor. But Good luck

I had the same thing happen on my C-125. I started looking at replacement pulleys, even bought one- but then as you can see in this picture the new pulley had a much smaller bearing in it

SO_I drilled out the rivets in the old pulley, very easy, then separated the halves and took out the bearing

Then I took the bearing to bearing supply and got a new one-put it back together and used large pop rivets to secure it-been working fine for 3 years-Thanks-Al

Anglo Traction

Good fix Al!, certainly one for the back pocket.

I suspect dgjks6 want's a quick fix, So at the expense of increasing your 'Parts Balance' (no pun intended), you'll probably want to get a new one......If you do, Please take the Old one with you and compare them before you walk out of the Store. Just in case you get an Aftermarket Made in China one, like I got. check my Post out for a warning.
