Moving an Eaton 11 w/axle from 520H --> 314A

Hello, I have a 314A w/a failed Eaton 7 hydro pump. I was able to get an Eaton 11 with it's attached transaxle from a 520H. I am hoping to put this on my 314A to make it live once again! The Eaton 11 is said to have 600-800 hours on it and to have worked before the guy parted out the tractor.

Before I try this I'd like to ask the forum about a few quick things:

- Both sides of the axle where the tires actually bolt on seem a bit loose, they move back and forth - one more than the other, and one side actually leaks a little oil. I'm wondering if the set screws have something to do with it, but I want to ask before I try this.

- The pump has an oil filter and two lines coming from it. I do not have the valve, but I do have the cylinder. Can I find a way to loop these lines until I can get a cylinder?

- Where do I fill the fluid? The guy I got it from drained it when he took everything apart.

- What weight fluid should I put in the pump when I do get it running?

- Is there anything else I should know about this switch?

I tried to include pictures, but it didn't work.

I appreciate any help, thanks much!!

(I have a 314-8 w/200 hrs, a 314A, and 2 310-8s).

I can't answer all of your questions but can help with some. I run 10W-30 in my 1100 and you fill it through the dipstick. There are two 3/8" bolts that hold the fender bracket that you can remove to help vent the trans so it will fill faster. Or you can put a small tube in the dipstick tube to help with the venting.

The leaking axle could be the axle seal. The set screw is not related.

The movement could be because the set screws are loose. You should check the keyway for the hubs and make sure they are not worn as well.

I am not sure about looping the lines together. I think this was covered a few posts below.

I suggest you search the transmission and transaxle section. Most of these issues have been discussed. You should find your answers and some thing you may not have even thought of. Good luck! :thumbs:

You can fill the oil from the dispstick tube. Unlike the 700-series, the oil is shared between the pump and tranny on the 1100. Unfortunately, you will probably want to put it back together as it should be for the pump to circulate oil as it should. You can find a spool valve pretty cheap on Ebay, and the manuals for a 520-H will show how it should be hooked up. Try to keep everything as clean as possible- one tiny grain of grit and it's all over.

I guess it's possible to bypass the cylinder, but I would not recommend it. The system filters the oil just before returning it to the sump under normal use. Changing that configuration is asking for problems.
