RJ 58 Bearing removal

Recommended Posts

What is the best way to get bearings out of side plates on the RJ58 transmission. I hear they are tough to remove.

Tom. On the ones that I have done, I welded a nut to the bearing and used a bolt to push them out. I don't know that it is the "correct" way, but it sure made them easy!!

wow, that is a good idea. I am just a home tinkerer with no welder. I think I will resort to banging it with a hammer, destroying the whole transmission, busting a digit, and eventually giving up on the project. UNLESS anyone else has any other suggestions on bearing removal? Please

Tom

Maybe you could take it to a machine shop. I wouldn't think it would cost that much.

i had a tool made that fits snug into the bearing and then i gently tap or wiggle it side to side, works great. i also had tools made to remove and replace the bushings.
