Impressive Paint Job

Recommended Posts

I kind of just laughed when I heard about people painting cars with Rustoleum and a roller. I saw a kid with a good instructional on YouTube who used a thinned Red Rustoleum. He had a hair dryer in one hand to knock down any air bubbles and his 4" foam roller in the other. He wet sanded between coats and polished it when done. It looked pretty darn good. I would be happy with the quality.

Probably the best instructional vid I have seen on YouTube and the kid didn't say a word. Definitely worth a look, you could do this in your basement year round if you don't have a heated shop.

Thats a great vid........ Noticed he only rolled in one direction except for the very edge to keep the bubbles down.

Back in the day a friend and I would paint cars with a Wagner Power Painter and X-O Rust paint from True Value.

Looks very nice. Not a bad option for a tractor redo however the roller option is not a good one as we have too many curves etc. I guess a good quality brush would do the same thing.

Getting a nice paint job out of a roller is nothing new. Guys have been getting beautiful paint jobs painting their boats this way for many yrs. The trick is using a nice self leveling paint, a good foam roller and a fine Chinex brush to tip it off to remove the air bubbles, of course it takes practice and trial and error.

A little off topic here but I've been working on this 1950 race boat (one of my other hobbies) for about a month now. I used good marine paints and the roll and tip method. It took at least 3 weeks to prep and prime the wood and a total of 3hrs. to apply 3 coats of color, with a days worth of drying time between each coat. No runs, no sags and smooth as a babies butt. I'm aiming for 60mph with this boat.
