dgjks6 6 #1 Posted February 20, 2011 How do I remove the black "T" knob from the end of the throttle and choke lever so I can get the face plate off?

JimD 3,345 #3 Posted February 20, 2011 I use pliers. Put them right behind the knob, up tight against the plastic, get a good grip on the metal arm, and pry away from the dash panel. It should come off in a few tries.
Fiscalyear 0 #4 Posted February 20, 2011 With my luck I would break something and have a hard time finding a new part. Have you considered disconnecting the ends and removing the complete assemblies from the machine? I'm curious how this ends up for you. Please post your procedure and results. TT-(Moderator) 1,145 #5 Posted February 20, 2011 Use a claw hammer - with a piece of wood against the plastic dash panel to protect it.
dgjks6 6 #6 Posted February 20, 2011 I hate unfinshed posts - so thanks - I got it. Claw hammer and some force worked. The dash panel is being replaced so I had to get them off - and no wood needed because dash panel getting replaced.

JimD 3,345 #8 Posted February 20, 2011 TT, I like your idea better. Less damage to the knob and/or dash plate. That's going in the "bank".
rmaynard 15,727 #9 Posted February 20, 2011 There was a thread last April on the same subject. I posted a picture of how I did it. Here it is. Clamp a vise-grip onto the lever, just far enough back so as to be able to slide a pry bar, or as TT said, a claw hammer, between the vise-grip and the plastic handle. Give it a little push and it should pop right off.
