I have a question?

the best way to clean, remove, and reinstall these tags. I have one that I need to do soon and would like to know the best way to do this. this is a pic from another post of the tag in question. I think the push pins come out but haven't tried yet. my tag has some spray paint over spray on it.

The push rivets come right out and the tag will come off.

As far as cleaning it, you have to be carefull with what you use. I used parts washer solvet to clean a couple and it didn't harm the printing........

Hi Scott, Well the plate is retained by Steel rivets, these will have to be drilled out (about 1/8" drill bit should be correct). You can replace them with Alloy rivets so they don't rust.

The overspray paint can be removed with care. Depending on the condition of the Black Enamel print on the Plate, you can use a Cutting Polish. I'm not sure what Brands you have over in U.S, but I use a product called T-Cut. You can also use Silver Polish.

You should be lucky to remove it easily as there was probably a fine grease film on the Plate so the Overspray should not have Keyed on to it. Polish it carefully and lightly. Stop if you see the Black starting to wear away.

This will also shine up the Alloy.

Once it is removed , you can apply Wax Polish or spray a coat of Polyurethane Laquer on to protect it.

I've used rubbing compound on some, go slow, DO NOT use thinner or other paint solvents, or carb, or brake cleaner, your thumb nail and pick at it to get the heavy stuff off.

I've had pretty good luck removing the rivets by pinching them with needle nose pliers from the back side after you remove the housing. i have them replated and reuse them.

You DO NOT have to drill that style rivet!! Take the engine shroud off and tap the tip of the rivet from the inside. They will pop right out. You can reuse them to put the tag back on!!

Looks like Dclarke and I were typing at the same time..... Sorry for being an "echo"!!

Standard pop rivits, now I've found a few of the tractor ID tags glued on along with the rivits, use a thin putty knife, if it's stuck.
