hi, im looking for axle seals for my daughters rj58. anyone have any sources?

There are two style of axel seals for a RJ58..... early units had a seal which press fit into the axel tube, later versions had a seal which press fit on the exterior of the axel tube. You need to know which one you have.

The internal style seal can be found at any bearing outlet and/or Napa parts store. The exterior style can be sourced through Toro or a small engine outlet such as Jack's Small Engines.

I have the part numbers at home but not here at work..... if you perform a search you wil be able to locate the part numbers.... MikesRJ may even chime in with the numbers. (He's unsually faster than me :thumbs: )

Keep in mind if your axel bushings are worn your new seals will not have a long life span. A good rule of thumb is to replace the bushings at the same time the seals are replaced.

thanks vince. :thumbs: i must have the early style. the one i took out was pressed in the axle tube. my serial number on the frame reads 7725. and yes, you are right, i need the axle bushings as well. i have to bust it apart now. ive been into the 5053 trans before but not the 5003. i do have a book. it shows #1257 for the axle seals. is this correct for an early model? i may need more, but at the minimum. i need 2 axle seals. the bushings, and case gaskets. whats the best source for the parts i need? thanks jimmy

Jimmy,

There are two style roller bearings in a 5003, 4 ground R-12s and 3 unground R-12s. The ground R-12s can be found at any bearing shop as well as the 4 bronze bushings (2 in the dif and 2 in the axels). The unground bearings can be found at McMaster Carr using part #6383K49.

For the internal axel seals use SKF Seal Part #9815, these can be found at any bearing shop or NAPA Auto Parts. For the Brake shaft and Input shaft seals use Timken/National Seal #471643. Again any bearing shop or Napa is a good source.

I make my own case gaskets with gasket material from Auto Zone or NAPA. I like to use a little Permatex on both sides. Some may chime in saying they do not but there's nothing that makes me :thumbs: harder then when a week after rebiuld oil starts to weap.

PM MikesRJ for the manual, as you may have guessed it has the tear down procedure and parts list. The manual even provides the bushing sizes required. I've rebiult a number of these trannies, they're stupid easy. The hardest part is getting the old bearings out of the side covers.
