Modifying the 520H

Recommended Posts

Horse Fanatic

I modified my 520H to use 27-8.50-15 rear tires and 18-7.50-8 front tires (thought it would look more "bad a&&"). I still have to paint the rear rims, they look to be Case orange. The rear hubs are from a D series and are narrowed 2" and the inboard set screw moved out with the outer one. The front spindles are long ones from a 312 and I made my own reinforcement (my reinforcement technique may not have been ideal but it's better than nothing I figured). Obviously the footrests, fender and other things were tweeked to get the tires to fit. There is about 1/2" of clearance although it looks closer in the pics.

I'm contemplating putting a forward swept axle on it, but I might use it to plow next year and with this one I don't need the extension kit.

Very cool! I really like that snow-tire tread pattern on the rear tires. Much better than AG's of that size.

Since your using this for snow removal, you may find your blade doesn't quite hit the ground anymore. Depending on how you hook it up (solid link vs floating arm) you may have to do some more mods. You also will not be able to put a mowing deck under it anymore, but I see by your collection that will probably not be an issue. I like the mods!

It looks like it might be a tight fit getting chains on there?

Yes, silver on the rims!

I'm not going to cut grass with it. The snow plow should work since it just hinges on the rear axle. You're right, I'll need a longer link from the lift arm to be able to reach the plow frame.

Thanks, Glenn

Like the mods a lot. Very nice! Are you going to have room for chains or do you not run them?

Looks great. Why wouldn't a deck work? Don't the decks ride on the ground? Would the attachamatic not have enough play to get it to the ground or would the tires hit?

chains won't fit. I don't use them now anyway. My snowblower equipped tractor has loaded turf tires with weights and it's fine.

I can put the tractor back to stock in an afternoon. I still have the original spindles and hubs. The only part I "ruined" is the footrests and those are plentiful.

This tractor was a non running rusty piece of crap when I got it. I restored it correctly first and then decided to put the larger wheels on....

I would have never guessed that tractor was a rusty old piece at one time. Your tractors look like NOS and are some of my favorites.

Those tires kind of give it a 6-12 on steroids look. I would have gone with 24x12-12's myself or maybe even 26x12-12. But it's your tractor and you restored it so if you want to customize anything, I say go for it.
