boovuc 1,090 #27 Posted February 3, 2011 Adding my two cents: The heavier and more powerful the engine, the better when plowing. I plowed with a C-121 Auto, a C-175 and this year, a little 310-8. (All with the same plow). Hands down the C-175 was better. (It has my snowblower on it now or I would have the plow on it still). The hydro on the C-121 was way better than an 8 speed and I'll soon be coming into my years when the manual lift will have to go. Long story short for the best setup.........14 horse minimum tractor with a hydro and hydro lift. And after tonight on the 310-8, I wish I had that hydro lift! jsmay 0 #29 Posted February 3, 2011 Hey Guy's well, I picked up a plow yesterday... I spoke to the guy over the phone and he read me the model number... checked out right so I packed my 3 boys up and we headed out..little over and an hour away each way. I get there and see it standing up. I walk over and damn the frame looks almost new! Checked the model number myself... check... the we flip it over.. different blade entirely.. looks like a 30..36" blade but someone along the way added the the width and height... not a terrible job but not exactly what i expected.. then the mounts were no where to be found. But the guy made good and gave it to me for a real decent price(i guess). He also through in a few extra pieces of steal to fab up brackets with. I got it together last night... I did take some photo's but my phone went dead. I want to take it apart in another day or so to make a few small changes so i will take a few mor photo's. I'd still be interested in finding the "correct" plow/frame/and brackets but in the mean time...I'm all smiles! i will have better photo's soon...i'm learning as i go and its cold in my shop...gonna try and get some heat tonight. gdhile 0 #30 Posted February 3, 2011 well you definatley get alot of choices. i like seeing what all you guys use i use a 416-8 with chains and its unstoppable so i think as long as you get a horse and its good sized with plenty of motor you will do fine. jsmay 0 #35 Posted February 3, 2011 all ready for work! here is what i used for lifting... these attach to the deck, and because the plow was incomplete, I used the ole bridgeport to make these mounts that connect to the deck lift. all hardware is stuff I had and as luck would have it, its all grade 8! I will try for some more photo's of the rear mount. On these tractors the rear of the tractor frame is boxed around the frame and back panel below the tank so its real strong...looks like 1/4" steal. The steal plate that the guy gave me, i was able to bolt them to the inside of the frame, and then bolt the plow frame to them. The only think I don't like is how low everything is.. I referrenced my neighbors 953(i believe...) and it actually sits the same(plow frame that is). There is a thread on here by a member...I think it's RyanC.. where he mods a frame to be a front mount and Hi-lift. I really like that because you can let the plow ride up the bank...let pressure on the rearend. Which I think in the case of my 265H would be a good thing. dandan111 31 #36 Posted February 4, 2011 I like the older tractors, small frame 42 inch blade. My 314 has a 48 inch blade it gets heavy after alot of plowing. For me the manual trans is all I would want, manual lift for plowing down the sidewalks (when you hit a crack you just give it a tug) heavy wheel weights and chains. I enjoy plowing with my 654 round hood best. The small motors 6,7,8hp run cheap and have plenty of power.
