Two part round hood fuel tank

Recommended Posts

jb4249

I have a spare 2 part fuel tank that will fit my 854. I'd like to take it apart, remove the bottom. Have any of you guys had any luck doing this? The first 2 bolts I tried to remove broke. So I stopped. Any ideas? I have the original that I am painting but thought I clean this up and polish the aluminum. I saw one like that on a site someplace.

jb4249 I found the trick was to heat the little bolts up with a propane torch a little and then they come right out... And yes rinse the tank out with water if it has had any gas in it lately (for those safety freaks)... Plus the gasket is still avalible either on ebay or at your local Toro store...

I will try that. I have the gasket, it came with a set of stuff for the tank, fuel cap and filter. I think I bought my hood screws from you, on Ebay.

Good luck :banghead:

I haven't sold on ebay in a long time. If the hood screws you bought came from Michigan I sold them to him.

Just go easy with the heat, as the tank is all aluminum. You'll definatly want to fix all the broken bolts on the tank, so the gasket will seal all the way around. Good luck.
